The path narrowed until it barely deserved the name.

Stone replaced dirt, jagged and uneven, forcing us to slow. Low shrubs scraped at our legs, and the air grew thinner as we climbed. By midmorning, the sun burned bright overhead, but its warmth didn’t reach deep between the rocks.
