My wolf knows her

Chapter 4: My Wolf Knows Her

Randy

She looks so pitiful. Weak and terrified. Even if she was an omega, must she possess those signs? I hate weak people. They just have a way of making my lips curled in distaste even without trying.

I was about to walk away, I told myself it wasn't my business, she meant nothing to me. She was just some weak, low ranking girl. An Omega who happened to smell different. Too different.

Cassie raised the ice-cream, smiling like it was some kind of game. Her friends laughed like it was normal to treat someone like that.

But I couldn't help it. My wolf, he wanted me to protect his mate.

Ohh moon goddess, why must I indulge in her business?

Should I care if she gets treated like the Omega she is?

Fuck!

“Cassie!” I shouted the moment I reached them, loud enough to draw attention.

She froze, her eyes popping out of its socket. She never thought I could stop her which is normal because I don't indulge in her business, but not today.

The laughter in her eyes suddenly dies as she stares at me with disbelief. Her eyes brimming with shock.

Cassie's hands were still in the air, ice-cream dripping down her wrist. “What?” she murmured.

“What the hell do you think you're doing?” and under a second, her expression changed. “Baby, I was just _”

“Just what?” I cut her off. “Bullying someone who hasn't done anything yet?” gasp and whispers were flying around. I'm sure they were stunned to see me standing up for the new girl.

“Because this bitch needs to be put in her place!!” She yelled out in anger. I ignored her and looked at the new girl instead. She still had her head down. Her eyes shut, she didn't believe what was happening.

And her whole body was shivering, like she was trying to disappear into the ground.

“Look at me,” I spoke faintly. But she didn't move or react. I stepped closer and held her hands, which were still trembling but she didn't look up.

“Omega,” I called out and everyone burst into laughter. Don't blame me though, I don't know her name.

This time, she opened her eyes slowly. And God, those eyes. Soft, naive, full of pain, it always has a way of waking the nonexistent butterflies in my stomach.

Those eyes weren't like Cassie. They weren't sharp and calculating. They were raw, honest and real. For a moment, I got lost staring at it, and I forgot what I was even mad at.

“So, what ? Are you defending her now?” Cassie's angry voice snapped me out of my thoughts. Slowly, I let go of her and turned to Cassie, fixing her a coldly dangerous gaze.

“She didn't do anything, you embarrassed her in public for no reason.” I yelled back at her, trying not to show my anger or make anything suspicious about why I'm protecting her.

Cassie Face turned red with fury. “Is this about her scent? You think she's your mate?” a sinking feeling overwhelmed me as her words rolled in my ears.

Fuck!

I can't believe she said that out loud. Loud enough for others to hear. Including my best friends who were shocked.

How did she figure out so easily? Damn it! She's truly smart. Probably one of the reasons I fell for her.

The new girl looked shocked as hell, and so was everyone.

I should rebuke the words “mate” to protect her. Because if I don't rebuke the allegations made by Cassie, people will believe her and that will only attract more trouble to her.

Her scent did do something, it stirred something deep in my chest. Something I didn't want to feel but mate? No! I would never accept that.

“Don't just say what you think Cassie. You can't destroy someone's reputation because of your selfishness.” I barked at her, my voice came out as a growl.

But unfortunately, the look in her eyes wasn't buying the ideas.

“I'm not stupid, Randy. You didn't even look at me the way you looked at her. You think I didn't feel the shift in the air? The way your wolf reacted? Or the way you got so lost staring at her?” she snapped, making my stomach twist in knots.

I can't believe she noticed it all. Everything!

“Tell me the truth,do you want her now? Some powerless, low ranked…”

“Enough Cassie,” I bellowed at her. I don't think I can stand her anymore.

“None of the words you said are true. I have no intention of mating with a weakling ranked wolf like her.” I rasped in, my words laced with disgust.

I don't care if my statement will hurt her feelings. I don't just want to give her hope that I could be her mate.

“And as for you,” I narrowed my gaze at her and could notice how her eyes had already welled up with tears.

“ Don't get the wrong idea. Even if I dreamt you're my mate, I would reject you. You're damn pretty but not my type.” Without sympathy, I walked away with my best friend.

ELODIE

Just like in the novel, the popular boy in school came to my rescue. Looking all dominative, and that got me blushing inside, even though I didn't show it.

My body was still trembling, not in fear but in tension and apprehension. He was standing close to me.

I thought everything would end out like the one I read, but unfortunately, I was wrong. Everything came crushing down when Cassie made a statement that left me weak in the knees.

Randy is my mate. For a while, I was dumbfounded and speechless. That explains why I feel a strange pull towards him. Even though I haven't really shifted and my wolf was still dormant inside of me, it could still stir faintly, making me feel off balance.

This explains why he ran away the moment we locked eyes with each other. He was ashamed of me. Which he still is because he just rejected me in front of everyone.

The tears that had welled up in my eyes finally flowed out as he uttered the last words before walking away.

Now I get why others cry when they're rejected, denied by their mate. It's excruciating. My heart ached with so much pain.

In all my Life, I had never cared if I was chosen or rejected. As an omega, I have low expectations. I always knew I would be treated differently from the others.

So Randy's actions aren't so surprising to me. I'm used to it.

Summoning courage, I brushed off the tears from my eyes and proceeded to walk away even though my legs felt so wobble, I managed to walk. I just need to head to my room right now. I don't think I'll attend the morning class.

On my way, a guy intentionally bumped into me. I noticed his movements and plans from afar and thought of dodging it but he still ended up bumping into me.

“I'm not in for your drama, please excuse me.” I already have enough already and I don't want a random boy adding to it.

upon all my words, he didn't move away. He was still blocking my path.

“ I mean no harm. I'm just here to apologise on behalf of Randy and Cassie. I'm really sorry for what happened.” For the first time, I looked at him. He sounds so reasonable. So different from the other kids.

And damn, he was handsome. He has this killer look.

“I'm Jack.” He brought out his hands for a handshake, which I hesitated for a while before reciprocating.

“Elodie.” I whispered.

If I'm going to survive here, perhaps I need someone like him. Someone to show me around.

“You're really beautiful,” he said. “I get why Cassie is acting like this, she's intimidated by your beauty.”

His words cracked me up and before I knew it, I burst into laughter which made me flinch because I never thought I could laugh like this in a long time.

“I'm happy I was able to make you smile, princess Elodie.” he said, and I couldn't help but blush. I think I feel so better now.

“So, where's the princess heading to?” I rolled my eyes at him and sighed. “I was about to head back to my dorm.”

“No princess,” he smirked. “There's combat training going on right now and I'm not letting us miss it.”
