Elodie

I woke up in pain.

Not the sharp, burning pain from the trial, but the deep, aching kind that settled into my bones and refused to leave. My eyelids felt heavy as I slowly opened them, blinking against soft candlelight.

I was in the infirmary.

The familiar scent of herbs and clean sheets surrounded me. My body felt weak, like I had been drained of something important. When I tried to move, a quiet groan escaped my lips.

“Easy.”

The voice made my heart skip.
