Chapter 60Elodie

The night refused to let me rest.

The moon hung high in the sky, full and watching, like an eye that never blinked. I sat on my bed, knees pulled to my chest, listening to the quiet sounds of the school at night. Guards moved outside. I could hear their boots on stone, slow and steady.

They were not protecting me.

They were watching me.

Lysa was awake inside me, pacing again.

They are afraid, she said.
