The city that won't give her back

I don’t remember leaving the villa.

One moment, I was staring at her empty closet, at the space where her clothes used to hang. The next, I was in my car, engine roaring, tires screeching against pavement as I tore through the gates like a hunted man.

The city spread in front of me, buzzing with life, unaware that my world had just collapsed. Skyscrapers glittered. Traffic honked. People walked on sidewalks, laughing, talking, living.
