Elizabeth's POV

I wrapped my arm with the first-aid bandage, but the sting underneath wouldn’t let me forget. The scar was fresh, throbbing with each heartbeat, a cruel reminder of my mother's promise. I pretended to move on, that I wasn't hurt emotionally because I was supposed to get used to her cruelty and hatred toward me. But my heart lingered on the scene from her visit longer than it should. She was my mother and I expected at least an ounce of love from her.
