The next morning, the school felt different.

I walked through the gate slowly, my heart heavy, the sound of my shoes echoing against the wet pavement. The rain had stopped, but the ground still smelled of it. Every corner reminded me of him — the hallway where he used to pass by, the faculty window where I sometimes saw his shadow. Now it all felt empty.
