Chapter 7

Amelia

I could hear a faint sound of someone calling me. My whole body ached, but I felt as though I were floating in the sky.

“Miss Lockwood, we are trying our best, but the patient has suffered severe wounds. It will take some time for her to come out of the comatose state,” a masculine voice said. “We have removed the silver that entered her bloodstream, but we cannot use stronger treatments since she is pregnant, and her child is already in a fragile state. We are not sure if the baby will survive…”

Pregnant? Whose baby were they talking about?

My thoughts went to Elizabeth… whose pup had been lost because of me? The guilt crushed me. I knew I hadn’t done it intentionally. Never in a million years would I harm an innocent. No matter what pain I had endured, I could never hurt a child, even if their parents had plotted my death, even if they were the reason my own child and I were now in danger. I would never…

“I’ll find the bastards who did this to my sister and give them hell,” I heard a woman’s voice, trembling with fury and grief. She was barely holding back a sob. “For what they did to her, I, Emerald Lockwood, will make them suffer worse! If I don’t cut them into pieces and feed them to my dog, I won’t be Emerald Lockwood!”

“Miss Lockwood, please calm down!” another voice pleaded, but she only growled in response.

A ferocious she-wolf.

Who was she? For whom was she crying with such pain? And why… why did I feel a strange connection to her?

My head throbbed as I tried to understand, but the pain was unbearable. I winced aloud.

“Miss Lockwood!” the same masculine voice said urgently. “Miss Lockwood, can you hear me? I am your doctor, John Davidson.”

I forced my heavy eyelids open. A doctor in his mid-forties, dressed in a white coat, stood over me with concern in his eyes.

“Amy…” A soft whisper reached my ears.

I turned my gaze and froze. Standing before me was a woman who looked like my reflection. She had red, curly hair, the same haunting purple eyes, and curves that made her look even more radiant. She was breathtakingly beautiful, I couldn’t blink. Tears welled in her eyes, and before she could stop them, she lunged forward and crushed me into a hug so tight I thought my bones might snap.

“Miss Emerald, please loosen your grip, your sister is still injured!” the doctor warned.

“Oh…” She reluctantly let go, and I immediately missed her warmth. Who was this girl? Why did my heart calm in her presence? Why were my eyes wet? Did my soul recognise her, even when my mind did not?

“Amy…” she whispered again, her voice breaking.

I croaked out, “Who… are you?”

“I am Emerald. Your sister,” she said, fighting back a sob.

“My… sister?” I repeated, dazed. The word sounded so sweet, but I didn’t dare believe it. “I have no one. I’m an orphan.”

Something shattered inside her at my words.

“You are not an orphan,” she said firmly, pulling out her phone. “Look, this is you, this is me. When you were sixteen, I was thirteen…”

She scrolled through pictures. I saw a girl with my face, younger, happier, glowing. Could that really be me?

“And her?” I asked, pointing to a beautiful, mature woman in one photo.

“That’s Mom. Our mom.”

My voice cracked. “I… have a mom?”

“Yes. And a big family.” Emerald’s tears fell freely. “Amy, we’ve been searching for you for six years. Every corner, every lead, we never stopped. I never thought I’d find you like this, injured in the capital. Mom and Dad don’t know yet. They’ll be overjoyed. Mom cried for you every single day.”

“How do you know I’m your sister?” I asked weakly.

She showed me DNA test results. “But you don’t need this, do you? You can feel it, Amy. In your heart, you know I’m your sister.”

She was right. My heart recognized her. My soul told me I could put my guard down. I broke down in her arms, sobbing for the last six years of pain, for the mate who destroyed me, for the fragile life I carried inside me. My tears wouldn’t stop.

“Amy, what have you gone through all these years?” Emerald whispered, holding me close. If only I could tell her everything…

That night, Emerald told me everything about my past. My parents were Dante Lockwood and Scarlet Lockwood. My father, the Alpha of Phantom Moon, the strongest pack in the kingdom. My mother was a famous doctor and the only daughter of the Werewolf King. I even had an older brother, Sebastian Lockwood, also known as Ace. He was fifteen years older, born to my father’s first mate who had died giving birth to him.

As Emerald spoke, my heart trembled. I had been broken too many times to hope that my birth parents would welcome me. Why would they love me? I was returning after six years, and worse pregnant. Surely, they would hate me.

Two weeks later, Emerald brought me home.

It had been a month since I left Nightgale Pack, since my husband divorced me and left me to die at the hands of his subordinates, his ex-lover, and his mother. In one month, my world had turned upside down.

On the way to Phantom Moon, Emerald chatted about home, but my mind was consumed by fear and dread.

Finally, we arrived.

My heart pounded as Emerald held my hand and guided me inside.

“Who is at the door, Layla?” a melodic voice asked.

“It’s Miss Emerald,” the maid replied.

“This girl… I will not speak to her. She’s ignored us for two weeks!” the beautiful voice snapped.

An older version of me appeared, her gaze locked on Emerald. But suddenly, her steps faltered. Her heartbeat thundered in the air, echoing mine. Her eyes widened when she looked at me. She fell to her knees, sobbing uncontrollably.

My feet felt glued to the floor.

A powerful man rushed to her side, embracing her. “Scarlet, love, what’s wrong? Why are you crying? Are you hurt?” His voice trembled with rage, his aura barely restrained.

Through her tears, my mother whispered one word, then cried out, “Amy. Our Amy. She’s home, Dante. Our daughter is home.”

My father turned to me, tears streaming down his face. The strongest Alpha in the kingdom wept because his lost daughter had finally returned.
