Adeline first recognizes movement before she recognizes sight.

A draft stirs in the room, a thickening of sound and heat—a subtle, controlled, and very much alive presence. The wolves lying beside her begin to move—not her own, but those lying beside her, their massive bodies rippling as they are drawn out of the walls. Their bones settle with a soft, disturbing rhythm.
