I immediately noticed how wrong the town felt when we arrived. It didn’t feel hostile or dangerous.

It felt aware. Like it knew who we were.

The magic humming in the air was so thick that it felt like someone was breathing. It was so thick that it crawled under my skin and made my teeth itch.
