I'm in the middle of my engineering lecture when the mate bond suddenly flares with terror so intense that I gasp out loud and clutch my chest and the professor stops talking and looks at me with concern.

"Are you alright?" Professor Hayes asks.

"I need to go," I manage to say and grab my bag and run out of the classroom without waiting for permission.
