The silence that followed was heavy, almost suffocating, before the car finally came to a stop in front of a building.

"A hospital?" I mumbled under my breath.

As if he’d heard me, Damian turned to me and broke the silence.

"We’re here, Kaira," he said in a calm voice. I had thought he wouldn’t speak to me again—at least not this soon after what happened earlier.
