Chapter 8: The Foundation Of Betrayal

There he was, dressed handsomely in a black tuxedo, his hair styled back highlighting his beautiful blue eyes but next to him was Elsa. Her arms around him like she owned him, like he was her accessory.

His eyes were cold as he acted like I wasn't there. Before Elsa could engage me in a conversation, I walked away.

As the event went on, I watched as Elsa paraded around the ballroom with Lucian in her arms, making everyone think they were together.

"Welcome Mr. Russell, Ms. Vale." The host greeted as he led them to their table.

They were surrounded by other high ranking wolves and most of them couldn't take their eyes off them.

"Your fiancée looks beautiful tonight." One of them complimented and all attention around the table was drawn to them.

"Don't flatter me.." Elsa replied with a shy smile as she pulled herself closer to Lucian with a soft expression on her face.

"A compliment needs to be given when it's earned. You really hit the jackpot with her, Lucian. She’s gorgeous and she's the daughter of the powerful Frostveil pack's Alpha." Another commented as he eyed Lucian with envy.

"It doesn't really matter because Lucian is also a catch." Elsa whispered as she turned to smile at him, her eyes glittering with affection.

"That whoring bitch!!" Nina cussed as she tried to transform but I stopped her immediately.

"What are you doing? She's stealing our mate!!" Nina whined as she fought to be on the surface but I still didn't let her.

"Even if she is, Lucian is the one enabling it." I reminded as I turned our attention back to them.

The position they were in was enough to make Nina see reason with me. Her muffled whimper echoed in my head before she cut me off, but I could still feel her pain.

"Ohhhh... see how so much in love they are." Someone said, making all of them chuckle.

"Isn't that right, Lucian?" Elsa asked as she waited for his answer.

Lucian didn’t reply, which made me satisfied. She had to come up with a stupid excuse so they wouldn't look stupid and it worked, they all bought it.

But still, he didn't even try to clarify their relationship together and it broke me more than I thought it would. I was right here and he was acting like I didn't exist while being wrapped in the arms of another woman, my sworn enemy.

It became worse when my parents joined in the conversation. Seeing them dote so much on Elsa like she was the only daughter they had threw me into more despair.

They treated her with so much care and affection in just a few minutes than they had done for me all my life. I watched from a few distance as Elsa paraded the people I once cared about in front of me.

Watching them being so happy with my replacement hurt me, I couldn't watch them anymore.

I turned and was about to walk away when;

"Little sister!!" Elsa's saccharine voice called out.

I shut my eyes in frustration. Why can't they just leave me the fuck alone???

"What?!?!" I asked harshly as I whipped my head to face her.

Her smile brightened the more when she noticed my expression. "Where are you going? Aren't you going to greet mom and dad first?" She asked in her honeyed tone voice.

"Why should I? They have you!" I snapped.

"Don't say that. They want to see you too, little sister. Se—"

"Don't call me that!! I can never be the little sister to a thief and a whoring wench!!" I cussed, my voice louder than intended. I was just so mad.

Elsa's smile disappeared immediately. "S..Selene." She croaked out in shock.

Then, I noticed eyes on us. Everyone was watching, including my parents and Lucian, and I looked like the evil one to them but I was way past the caring stage now.

"Look at her.. an Alpha's daughter but isn't educated. Where did she get those disgusting manners from?" A woman I recognized to be one of mom's friends said.

My parents on the other hand didn't even try to defend me, not even Lucian. I scoffed as I stared at their aloof expressions. What was I expecting?

"I have parents but none of them took the time to educate me." I said in a sarcastic tone, earning murmurs from everyone around.

My parents' faces instantly darkened at my comment. I had just insulted them in front of everyone at the event.

I knew that I was going to be dealt with for my action today but I didn't expect it to be so soon.

My father raised his hand and moved to hit me. I could have easily moved out of the way but I didn't, I stood there so everyone would see how the 'great' Alpha of Frostveil Pack manages his household.

Just then, Elsa came in between us and pushed me out of the way like the 'good' Samaritan she is. I lost my footing and was about to fall when I saw the evil glint in her eyes.

She's planned something!!

Before she could move away, I held her wrist and pulled her with me as I fell. A shrill scream escaped her mouth as we both fell into the fountain I didn't know was behind me.
