Chapter 4: In Search Of His Mate

“Come on baby. I know you will survive this.” He whispered in Julia’s ear as he opened the sliding door to the room.

Upon opening the door, the scent of Jasmine and Lilac filled his nostrils. He stopped for a moment, inhaling its smell.

As he did that, his wolf stirred in his mind, with an eagerness that Damien couldn’t stop.

“Damien… Dame…” His wolf, James uttered, trying to break him away from his thoughts. Although he kept whispering his name, it wouldn’t work just yet.

Hmm… This is a nice scent. Who knew my mate would smell delicious? Damien thought as he walked further.

With each step he took, they echoed on the plush carpet all over the room, which was a nice contrast to the sharpness of the grass outside.

His heart beat rapidly inside his chest while he observed Julia’s face. Once again, his eyes flashed an amber color for a second. And James moved back and forth in his brain, his patience wearing thin. Until finally, it broke apart completely.

“Damien, mark her now! We need to mark her!” His wolf howled impatiently and pushed himself forward. Damien closed his eyes for a moment, not willing himself to transform into his wolf.

It had taken me four long years of searching everywhere for her. And now I fear what could happen if she doesn’t accept our mate bond. The Moon Goddess had allowed her wolf’s scent to appear, making it much easier for me. Damien thought as Alexa gently tapped his shoulder.

Damien shuddered as her hand lingered, a simple action that brought him back to the present.

What? Who touched me like that? He pondered as his eyes glazed over for a second.

“Damien, can you hear me?” She asked, her voice just above a whisper.

She wasn’t certain if he was listening to her. Yet, how he moved slightly showed that he was, even though his mind was racing a million miles per minute.

The brief interaction between them was a nice distraction from his chaotic thoughts.

But his mind always returned to his mate in his arms, who was blissfully sleeping despite the chaos about to enter her life.

Her eyes searched for Damien’s, and her mind began racing once again.

Come on, give me something that I can hold onto. I must know that you can hear me talking to you.

As time ran slowly, fear gripped her heart with an iron-like fist. Her nerves were running rampant inside her chest over everything that had happened.

Alexa shifted from one foot to the other and crossed her arms over her chest. Her expression changed from worry to concern as she watched her best friend.

Am I ready to tell him where it is? Or do I want to make him sweat a little? She thought while biting her bottom lip.

Damien sighed a simple sigh of recognition before nodding.

She’s right, we have to do this for Julia’s sake. But I don’t know how much more of this I can take. I mean, Julia needs to wake up I want to see her beautiful eyes. He thought while inhaling and exhaling, allowing his emotions to settle.

After a moment, he faced Alexis, his eyes filling with worry, then conviction.

Damien knew that it was important to be on Alexis’s good side.

“Yeah, I hear you,” Damien replied quietly before continuing. Then, once again, his eyes observed their surroundings. Something about it sent shivers down his spine, and an aura filled the room.

I need to place her somewhere comfortable. But where should it be? He wondered as an idea popped into his mind.

“I know, Damien. Place our mate on the bed.” His wolf, James, spoke with excitement in his voice.

Yet, Damien wasn’t all too happy about his persistence. He would mark her only when Julia knew who he was and what they were to each other.

Oh, my goddess. Will James stop pestering me about claiming her? I know we had to wait four years to find her. I understand his excitement, though. But it’s getting to be too much. Damien pondered while rolling his eyes at James’s antics.

“Where is her bed?” He asked, unsure of where to place her. But one thing was for sure, he knew that he would do anything to keep her safe, and away from anybody that could harm her.

Alexa sighed before pointing to the left side of the bedroom where the bed stood.

“It’s over there, near the bathroom.” She whispered under her breath before walking again.

With each step she took, her resolve grew more and more to the point something clicked in her mind, making her rethink her actions toward him.

Just because he suddenly appeared doesn’t mean he’s not right for her. So, it’s best to bite my tongue to see what will happen.

Alexa stopped to sit on Julia’s bed, as pain and discomfort ran through her brain.

Ugh. This is getting f*cking worse. Why can’t it stop? Could this be in part of me not accepting Damien as the Alpha king he is, and for their relationship?

Unable to take it anymore, she rubbed her forehead with her fingers, trying to ease it away.

Her heart burst with joy at the realization of the possibility of Julia’s happiness.

Honestly, I can’t wait until she sees her new mate. Who knows how she’ll feel, though? She wondered as she scanned him up and down.

“Lay her down here, and I’ll cover her,” She declared with a small smile, trying to ease the tension in the room.

He nodded.

“Alright. But don’t you think it would be best if you open the covers?” He asked while inclining his head.

Then, she laughed, her eyes crinkling at their sides.

How could I have forgotten about that? Well, let me get that done now. She pondered as she walked around to the other side of the bed.

“Yeah. Sorry about that.”
