“Would you like to dance?” He asked her, trying to ease her uncertainty and the tension in the air.
The music surrounded them as he started swaying back and forth, getting into it. His eyes bore into Julia’s while he tried to send love and comfort towards her.
I hope this works because she needs to see the sincerity of my actions. But will she accept or reject my offer to dance? He pondered while holding his hand out and smiling.
As Julia started to sit up, his mind raced more. Each passing thought caused worry to etch into his brain.
I don’t know what I’ll do if she doesn’t. Would it cause my heart to break into two? He wondered, his mind racing over the what-ifs.
Then, his wolf popped into his mind, worry etched in his brain.
“Damien, quit it! She has been through a lot. So, give her some room to adjust to her new reality.” His wolf declared with finality in his voice.
Damien huffed, his anger and reluctance showing through as he continued speaking to his wolf.
Why does he have to be a voice of reason? Couldn’t he just agree with me?
Damien thought, then stopped, focusing his eyes on Julia, and determination grew in his heart.
I have to stop acting like this. She does need to come to terms with her new life. Damien thought as he breathed deeply, letting the realization set in.
“Alright, fine. I will do just that.” He responded silently, his voice reminiscent of the annoyance in his eyes.
Julia sighed a breath of relief as she scanned her surroundings. It’s amazing to be awake, finally. She thought as her eyes adjusted to the light in the room.
Then it landed on Damien, who stood before her, and her nostrils flared. Anger rose in her body at this person that she didn’t know.
Who is he, and what does he want? She asked herself internally as Damien inched a little closer to her.
She rubbed her arm up and down as her nerves ran rampant inside her chest.
I don’t understand what he’s doing. Yet, I enjoy what he chose to do for me. And this simple action makes my heart beat for him even faster than it did for my ex-mate. Could he be the second chance mate the Moon Goddess chose for me? Julia pondered as she nodded her head.
Although her best friend tried to be there for her on her worst days, her heart was still broken in half after the death of her ex-mate.
Yet, she always was grateful to have her there for her no matter what.
Julia sighed a breath of relief as she realized she needed to take this chance.
Am I breaking my ex-mate’s heart by dancing with him? Or is he happy for me to grab my happiness by the sleeve? Julia wondered as her heart beat rapidly inside her chest, unsure what to do.
Then, she sat up straight as something clicked in her mind.
“Of course, I would love to dance with you.” She replied and gingerly grabbed his hand in hers.
But when she was about to stand, her legs became wobbly. And she had a hard time stabilizing herself.
Oh. no! I’m going to fall! She thought while trying to grab something to hold onto, but nothing was there.
Meanwhile, Damien observed her, his eyes glazing over as he watched every inch of her.
Then, his eyes widened, and his mind started racing.
My mate is about to fall! I have to do something quickly, so she doesn’t get hurt! Damien thought as he sped over to her fast enough to catch her before she fell.
“I got you. Grab my hand, and I will pull you up,” He whispered while holding his hand out.
But Julia sat on the bed, her eyes boring into his. Her heart thumped inside her chest, unsure of what to do.
Just as an answer appeared in her mind, her long-lost wolf spoke. She had an ethereal-like way of speaking, which stopped Julia in her tracks.
“Listen to our mate. He knows what to do!” Serephina said, her voice just below a whisper.
Shock and awe reverberated in her body as Serephina continued speaking.
What the f*ck? I haven’t heard voice in six years, right before my mate’s death! She screamed internally at the realization that she now had someone she could talk to all the time, especially since she was alone most of the time.
Damien shifted from one foot to the other, anxious about what to do or say next.
While awaiting her response, his eyes scanned the surroundings and took everything in.
Is she okay? She has been silent for a relatively long time. I hope everything is good, if it’s not, I don’t know what I will do, he wondered as Julia sighed.
She sat on the bed, her legs crossed over each other, her mind in the other world.
Julia crossed her arms over her chest as her wolf appeared in front of her.
“Who are you? And what do you want with me?” She silently asked Serephina, her mind filled with worry.
The way Serephina walked from one side of Julia’s mind to the other, her worry and anxiousness filled Julia’s brain.
“I can sense that you have no idea who I am. There is no need to worry because I will explain it now,” She declared, her voice filled with excitement, but Julia gulped.
What does she mean that she’ll explain? She thought as her breath hitched in her throat and clutched the bedsheet.
Then, Damien grabbed Julia by the hand, causing her to look him in the eye.
“Are you okay? You seem to be deep in thought.” He whispered, his voice filled with concern.
She nodded her head, denial in her eyes. Julia wasn’t ready to confront her feelings just yet.
“Yeah, I am alright. You don’t need to worry.” Julia replied, her voice just above a whisper.
