Chapter 10: Confessions of Reality

She steeled herself and crossed her arms, letting his words fall over her like a blanket or comforter.

He has no right to know. But I can't help but reveal who it is. Julia thought while taking a deep breath.

The air around them was charged with unrelenting tension that could be cut with a knife. Yet, that didn't deter Damien from finding out the truth.

While she was pondering, her wolf interrupted her train of thought. Her voice was an echoing reminder that she wasn't alone in this new life that took her many years to find.

"Julia, focus on the current situation we're in. Not the past, because we can't change anything about it." Her wolf reminded her calmly.

She looked down at her hands, and her heart beat rapidly. Unease flowed through her veins as her phrases lingered in her mind.

Julia wrung her hands, trying to understand what she meant, yet it was difficult for her. She had woken earlier that day, unaware of the consequences of her actions. But finding out about her new mate was like she had high hopes for her new life. Although it was going to be difficult for her to let her pack know of the new ruler alongside her.

"I... I don't think I can do that. What if my life will be the worst it ever was?" Julia replied, her brain whirling with each word.

"Listen, you will calm down, now. Since our second chance mate got us no matter what." Her wolf replied calmly, reassuring her that everything would be alright.

As the words lingered, Julia's nerves calmed down slowly. It was just enough for her to understand what to do about it.

The beeping sound continued nonstop, causing them to clench their fists. She peered at her phone, which lay screen up on her desk, and she squinted while curiosity flitted through her eyes.

What the f*ck? Why is she still texting me when I haven't answered her text yet? She wondered while inhaling and then exhaling.

It was constant, not letting them breathe for a moment. However, she was determined to speak her truth, even if it would take a while to do so.

What I'm about to say will either make or break our relationship. But I know the importance of building our love. Julia pondered placing her hand over her heart. She let her wolf's words calm her down, although for a little while before they picked up again.

She looked Damien in the eyes, and a sense of ease flowed through her veins. It was like their wolves were communicating with each other. And a bond was forming instantly.

I know it's important to tell him every little detail about my family life. But I'm not ready for the consequences of it to occur. Julia wondered as she looked down at her feet.

Damien placed his hand under her chin, lifting it to look at him. His heart beat inside his chest at the thought of the sadness behind her eyes.

"Sweety, just know that you're not alone in this journey. Hell, I even can't believe that I found you. It had taken me 5 years to finally find my second half. And now that I have you in my arms, I'm not letting you go." Damien whispered into her ear.

He kissed her cheek, then placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.

I'm so f*cking sorry that I pushed her for an answer. Being the Alpha King, it's hard to turn that part of me off. I hope she will understand where I'm coming from. He sighed, exhausted with the rampaging emotions in his heart.

"Babe, you don't need to tell me who she is, if that's what you want to do. I understand that after appearing in your life suddenly, it's awkward of me to demand answers from you." Damien spoke calmly, reassuring her that everything would be alright.

As those words lingered in the air, Julia sighed. After a while, she knew that it was now or never to speak about who it was.

"I know, it's just that... I need to tell you so we can build our trust. I mean, that's how relationships work, right?" She stated while crossing her arms over her chest.

Damien nodded, and an understanding passed through his mind. He knew how important it was to gain her trust, but didn't want to do it at the cost of their unusual relationship status.

As the moments passed, determination grew by the second, and a realization dawned upon him.

He picked her up off his lap and placed her next to him. A gentle move that ensured Julia wouldn't be injured by his super strength.

Damien stood and turned to face Julia. His eyes drooped as he watched her expression turn from happy-go-lucky to sad.

My beautiful needs to see that I'm going to support her no matter what, Damien wondered while looking deeper into her eyes, then spoke, "Yeah, that's true." He stated with a small smile.

She smiled as those three words made their way to her ears. Then Julia rolled her shoulders back, releasing the stress from them.

"Sarah is my oldest sister." She declared, then grabbed her phone from the bedside table. As she did that, it beeped once again, causing her hands to begin shaking involuntarily.

Suddenly, a text message and an image of a child appeared on her phone. As her eyes scanned the picture, tears started pooling at the edge of them.

"I can't f*cking believe he would do that to me! How could my dead mate have a baby with my sister?" Julia screamed, shock reverberating through each word.

Meanwhile, Damien stood in front of her and tried wrapping his mind around what she was saying.

"What happened? Why'd you scream like that?" He asked, curiosity filling his heart.

Not realizing that he was talking to her, she continued yelling. "This is a betrayal that I never saw coming! And she's going to hear from me!"
