Chapter 5

The rest of the meal was silent and when we were done, Kodak asked me to wait in the car. I guess, it was time for their business talk and he didn't want me involved. I didn't go to the car, I rather hid and peeked, I saw Joe and Stephanie hand him a black envelop, and then they had a brief conversation until, they finally stood up and shook hands. I ran to the car immediately and feigned to be asleep. When Kodak got in, I tightened my fingers, suddenly feeling unsafe around him.

"Stop with the act and get up. I know you were peeking"

Of course, he would. Such a smart ass. I got up at once and I found myself yelling at him.

"You can't just think of marrying a woman you just met! You said I was to work for you, you didn't tell me I was getting married to you! And here you were talking about freedom? What freedom? Were you ever ready to grant me one?!"a tear slipped down my cheek from my impulsive act and also thinking about the state of my family back at Vegas.

He was mute and only ignited the car engine and drove off.

"You cannot marry me!"I stated.

"Why?"he asked. "You are healthy. That's all I need" he said.

"You cannot do this to me. I'm not ready for marriage. Just let me work for you" I cried

"Why? You think I'm not husband enough. I'm not your type of man?"he smirked

I was left speechless. Was he making a mockery of the whole situation.

"When is the wedding?"I asked wiping my tears.

"Tomorrow"he replied.

"Tommorrow?"I shrieked and he nodded. The way he dropped bombshells wasn't so new to me again so, I took in a deep breath before I asked, "What do I gain from all of these? How about my family?"

The way I was so brazen, I too, was already scared of what my actions might cause.

"Make me rich"I stated

"Is that all you want?"he suddenly asked.

What? All I want? Why did I feel like I was trading my freedom for money?

"Why are you doing this to me?"I exclaimed in frustration.

"You are all I need"he cooed

"And my freedom? I don't love you, I only just met you and next marriage?"

"You can always get a divorce once everything is over but I doubt you will"he replied.

"A divorce."I scoffed "It's that easy for you, huh?!"

He didn't reply me again and he wasn't planning on replying me till further notice. I clenched my fist in anger as I decided to play cool. Can I just run away? Can I? And what did he mean by doubting I would get divorce? I could never make the mistake of falling in love with him. It just wasn't right.

We arrived back at the drug camp and as soon as he parked the car, Cypher came forward to me.

"Take her to her room and watch her closely"Kodak told him

"Yes boss"he replied and gripped me immediately.

"Let me go"I struggled but to no avail. I looked back at Kodak and he was already leaving. I gnashed my teeth from all my seethe and finally I followed Cypher to my room. He literally threw me in. But I was too upset to scream, so I just flopped on my bed and hot angry tears began to flow out.

"Dad, Christopher, I miss you"I sobbed till I finally drifted off to sleep.

I woke up with a startle, unsure of what had caused me to bolt upright from the bed, my heart pounding in my chest. As I tried to calm my breathing, I heard Cypher knocking on the door. Before I could even respond, he burst into the room. Did he not know I was a woman? He showed no respect for privacy or personal space.

He pulled open the curtains, letting the morning light flood the room. I shielded my eyes from the brightness, and squinted as I took in my surroundings. Cypher's sudden entrance had left me feeling disoriented and unsettled.

"What are you doing?"I was forced to ask immediately. Why was he behaving like a nanny? He was a guard for godsake!

"It's your wedding day. Get up already"he said

Oh fuck! I knew already. Did he have to remind me further.

"I know. Can you leave, I can do my things myself" my expression clearly portrayed - *Get out*

He shook his head instead, walked to the door and I saw him mouth "come in"

He came back into the room, but this time along side three women. One held a makeup box, another held a cloth box and another held a tray of food. I furrowed by brows and shook my head.

"They will get you ready in time."Cypher mentioned.

I was blatantly silent. My discomfort reflected all over my face and cause I was still in my yesterday outfit, the stilettos on my foot hurt my ankle, I just wanted to scream. Cypher didn't say any other word and left. As soon as he shut the door, the lady with the tray dropped it on my bed side table.

The make up artist smiled from ear to ear. "Oh dear, you are so pretty. I'd have no trouble perfecting your beauty "she complemented.

So was she too. She was a blonde, with piercings all over her ears, and a perfect physique.

"My colleague here, has the perfect wedding gown just for you. We will do our best."she continued, pointing to the other lady with the box. That one wasn't much of a smiler but she waved at me and I didn't reciprocate. "I'm Lily"the lady added "You are?"

I took in a deep breath before answering "Adele"

"Alright Adele. Shall we get to work then?" she smiled.

It was a very long process, with all the princess treatment I recieved. I had quickly had my bath and they primped me, from my face, to my hair and my finger and toe nails. It was giving luxury appearance but very simple and exquisite. When, they had me put on the wedding gown, I didn't know when I giggled in sheer excitement. It was full on me, flare to the ground and really pretty. The sparkling white pigment lustered even more with the sun's ray on it and the upper part embedded with white pearls, hug firmly to my torso. The sleeves were flowery bulb. They had me wear a simple free white stiletto, that gave me so much comfort. My hair was already packed in French bun with a few fringe left to the front that rested on my forehead, the veil sat right on the bun and flowed down to my back. They shove a bouquet into my hands and by then, the tray lady had already fed me the breakfast even when I insisted on not having her feed me. When I had a final look at myself in the mirror, I smiled but my emotions cried. A tear was about slipping down my eyes but I quickly curbed it. I wouldn't let the hard work of these females be in vain.

I envisioned my little brother, Christopher in the hands of those brutal bandits crying for release. My dad, working of his ass to gather a ransom to get back my brother even though it wasn't demanded. But here was I, having the best of my life in a sorrowful state. Fuck! This wasn't right! I could still try my luck, there has to be a way out of this.

I stepped out the room and I met with Cypher. "I need to see your boss. Please"

He didn't reply instantly rather he stared at me in awe. I was scared he'd blurt the word 'you're pretty' because, I wasn't sure how I'd react. Probably disgusted.

"The boss?"he finally said in a husky voice before clearing his throat. More like he'd come back to reality, he said "I'm sorry. But you can't. It's time for the wedding"

"Just a few minutes"I begged.

"We have to leave now"he gripped me by my hand but not as firmly as he did the previous day.

I followed him reluctantly and we got into a car that drove, still within the drug camp but deep inside to a more open arena. The place was set already, to a typical open field wedding setting, atop green carpet grass. Fancy golden chairs on both side of the red carpeted aisle, vase of flowers mounted at each corner of the little setting. The stage was also set and right behind two pillars that was clothed with a flowery design, an alter was mounted.

There was no place set aside for reception after the wedding. I guess it was strict to business. People were already seated on the golden chairs and the seats were scanty so, it was obvious that it was only those within the drug camp that were invited to the wedding. Cypher got down from the car and had the door open for me but just as I stepped down, I bumped into someone and my bouquet fell to the ground. The person quickly helped me pick it and when I looked up, it was my dad and Christopher stood beside him.
