I felt the sun wan slowly behind the fabric of the darkened curtains as I laid underneath the satin sheet on my bed. My head rested on the pillow while my arm rested under my neck. I rolled over and stared at the ceiling while my thoughts were at war with what to do about the plan to end this charade with Gabriel. I hated the idea of everyone that I was close to get hurt and being holed up like animals when the reality was that we had done nothing wrong. Sarene had been forced to make the decision that very day because Gabriel sought out revenge for what had happened at the labs. The truth was this, I was scared. Scared of going into that place where the scientists had created us. The first line of vampires that had existed. Me and Gabriel and possibly more who had died trying. It made me wonder if Sarene and her parents were apart of what they were doing.
The urge to ask her was strong but the Remus pack had a close eye on us the whole time but we also had access to the city for supplies to which made me realize that there could be another route to the castle. I sat up, scanning my room as I did so. It hit me that while that I was Sarene's command, she had given me a map that contained the coordinates of the castle and the surrounding area, meaning the city. I bit my lip and a stood to my feet still feeling the sun as it went down in the horizon. I went to my closet and rummaged upon the several boxes and cloths that I had stored in there a long time ago. My hand landed on the map that I had hidden just for this situation. “There you are.” I mumbled as I opened the map.
A red circle outlined the spot where the castle was and close to it was the little city that we went to for important supplies. Mainly medical, cloths, and personal care items but what really struck me was that there was in fact a road that nobody ever traveled before. One that was hidden to any prying eyes. This road lead the castle. “Bingo.” I said. I folded the map back to the way it was before and took caution as I peaked out my window. The sun had fully set and relief settled in my bones.
I closed the curtain and went to my bedroom door and opened it with care. The others would be waiting for me in the parlor were we would gather for what is of ahead of us. I walked down the gall that was lined candles, photos and old books that lay on shelves from previous years of being here. The first person that I saw was Emery. Her red hair from the change was up into a ponytail and dressed in a black tank and blue jeans made her figure stand out more than it already had before and on her feet was a pair of boots that made it even more sexy than I had imagined her being in. I pried my eyes away and saw Nora, wearing a yellow sweater and black jeans with her normal sneakers while her hair was braided into sections of two. Blake on the other hand wore mainly black with his grey hair hanging loose to his forehead. “Evening.” I said with my entrance. All of them looked up and for a moment I saw from the corner of my eye, Emery blushing.
I wasn't sure why but it must of had something to do with the kiss that we had shared the other night. I wasn't complaining. It has been a long time since I had someone in my eternity and Emery was pretty much it. When Nora and Blake brought her here. I was unsure where things would of lead us but I wouldn't of know if I hadn't taken the chance. Now there wasn't nothing stopping me from feeling this way about her. “I may of found another way to the castle without being detected,” I reached in my back pocket and withdrew the map I had found earlier.
Blake gave me a look. “How long have you had that?” He came over and took the map from between my fingers and unfolded it. “This could of helped us out a long time ago when we originally decided to rectify out situation with Sarene in the first place.”
“Awhile,” I answered his first question like it was nothing. “Plus I honestly didn't think anything of it until Emery was sure about wanted this all to end.”
“Why wouldn't I want this to end? Gabriel has done all that he has to make sure that our eternities' have been miserable…so far anyway.” Emery spoke with anger in her tone. “We all deserve our freedom. Whether he likes it or not.” She bit her lip as if she was about to add in something else but the silence was all that was needed to claim that she was done talking but the image of her biting her lip made me want to kiss her again but I held back only because we were in the middle of something important.
Nora broke the silence. “When do we head out? I mean we can't rush out like idiots and get ourselves killed before we had the chance to redeem our innocence. It's not worth it." She looked down at the floor and turned to the fireplace and stared at the flames as it licked at the fire wood that rested there. “We should think about preparing for what's ahead so that way we aren't empty handed while facing a monster that has terrorized us since we got exiled from the castle.”
“Nora's right. We need to gather what we need before we rush into anything this severe.” Blake said. as he walked over to the fireplace to rest his arm on on the mantle surface. "I will go scout the road to make certain that nobody has come across it then I will report if I see anything unusual."
I only nodded to approve and Blake instantly dashed out the door, leaving me with the girls. After a moment of silence, I turned to them and looked at Emery first then Nora. "You both should head into town and gather supplies." I bit my lip. "Basically things that will help put down Gabriel."
Nora looked like she was biting the inside of her cheek, one of the many habits I came to know. "Don't we have that backup storage in case an emergency this dire arise?" I looked at her in confusion at what she was trying to ask.
I tapped my chin and thought, vaguely remembering that a few hundred years ago, I had taken up a storage space someplace in town, full of weapons and other supplies to take care of of Gabriel if the need ever arose. "I remember," I replied to Nora's response. "I can't believe that I forgot. The storage container is someplace in town. Once we scout the road and the perimeter around it, we will head there to get the remaining things we need for our trek."
