CHAPTER 23

An hour had passed and we were already on our way to the road that we spoke of. The thoughts that constantly raced through my thoughts had made me uneasy. Gabriel was once my friend, one that had kept me sane in my time at the labs. The place that those cruel scientists decided to create the very first race of vampires as far as I knew of anyway. There were more of us than I had envisioned honestly. It made me think about whether or not I was the first or those bastards had lied to our faces. What more did they keep from us? From me that I should of known about before? Was Sarene and her parents the first race? I shook my head and turned my focus to reality. As I zipped through the trees and underbrush of the of forest, I looked up at the sky, noticing how bright the stars had gotten alongside the moon, to which it was full. A group of clouds had formed to cover a portion of the moon, causing a mystery vibe from above. I heard Emery's voice loud next to me, "Are we there yet?"

I looked over at her with a look of confusion. "Do you mean the road that leads to the castle?" I asked her. At this, Emery nodded. "We should be close now." She gave me another nod before turning her focus on her surroundings ahead of her. The sounds of owls and insects filled the night air sound like music to my ears. It was still dark and for that I was grateful.

The wind tipped up causing a breeze to flutter our hair Wild strands went into my eyes. A sound alerted me from a close distance away from the three of us. I instantly whipped my head toward the noise and I saw a black figure came rushing at us and somehow I knew that it was Rogue. One of the deadliest creatures that could of ever been created and my guess was it was made at the same lab that the scientists were located. They too needed to be brought to an end of existence but that as well was another matter to be solved for another day. The Rogue had zipped by us, landing in the under growth of bushes a mile away. A throaty growl emanated from its' lips and before I had time to fully react, I saw Emery do a one eighty spin and hearing her foot land on the Rogue's face. I heard bone crunch and I knew that she must of severed something and I hoped that it was its' neck but I was wrong. It roared and it charged at her and my adrenaline kicked in super quick because I was already in front of Emery blocking the attack from the Rogue.

A guttural sound emerged from its' lips, "There is no stopping any of us." It spoke out of cockiness. "We will keep coming and soon all of you will be dead."

"So you think," I heard Emery say and I couldn't help but grin. "We will find a way to end your species."

The Rogue laughed the sound sounding like nails on a chalkboard. "What makes you think you can defeat all of us? You are still new to the vampire world and you have yet to discover your true potential."

Before any of us us could respond, there was a huge explosions in the distance. We all turned and faced a big cloud of fire and smoke which lead to the castle. "No." I all but whispered. I turned and I sprinted to the Rogue and snapped its' neck. "We need to go. Now." With that we raced towards the castle while unwanted thoughts scrambled through my brain in what had occurred but one person did come to mind and it was Gabriel.
