My throat went dry. I forced a weak smile that didn’t convince even me. “My family just… keeps a low profile. We’re not the flashy type.”

Cosette’s brow arched, sharp and skeptical. “Low profile?”

“Yeah,” I said, smiling too wide now, trying to make it sound casual. “We prefer to stay out of politics. The whole power-display thing—kinda old fashioned, don’t you think?”
