Chapter 2

Kyle

I bite my fingers, staring at my phone screen, tapping my feets and gulping hard.

I'm at the locker room, at the backstage of the arena, preparing for the games that has a few minutes to kick off.

It's one of my biggest dream in my life.

Am I nervous? No but why isn't she calling?

"We are almost up next boys, get ready..." the coach reminds holding a meeting with my team.

As his speaks, his words blur out the more I tried to listen or it's probably because I'm distracted.

Three of my bodyguards stands behind me, fixing patches on my shoulders while the third observes the room.

The coach didn't look at me as I'm an island and would join in whenever I like.

I'm the only one a distance away, sitting on a plush chair and stupidly staring at my phone.

Except the fact that Aaron decided to bug into my life by appearing in front of me.

If the coach wants something, he sends Aaron, my close friend since college.

"Dude you have her picture as your wallpaper?"

Aaron's voice draws my attention to him. There's shock in his tone and when I glance at him, his jaw drops.

However, he quickly looked away and resumes bringing out my helmet from my bagpack.

As much as I hate her, she's still my lucky charm and looking at her face is a reminder that I need to prove her evil wishes wrong.

"Awwn, she's so sweet, she left a cake for us, I guess she baked it with her blood" he praises definitely wanting me to say something about her.

I glared at him and he quickly flail his hands in a surrender while staggering aside with one foot.

He could balance on the skate shoes he wears afterall, we are hockey players.

My face brightens up as I shoved my phone aside, intending to see the write up on the cupcake he was holding.

It's either 'i hate you' or a drawing of a monster on it.

He showed it to me and tried so hard to control his laughter because if I hear a sound from him, I'm punching his throat.

She only expresses her feelings through baking and now it's;

"Fuck you"

Interesting, now she wants us to fuck. I smirked, rubbed a finger on the cream on the cake and then suck it.

"Your wish is my command princess" I teased and then swipe my fingers on my thighs while dragging the cake from him.

Aaron grins at me but then clears his throat as his eyes darts to the exit door.

"Your father-in-law is here, time for war" Aaron announces in a frantic tone, salutes me and skate to join the others who were now leaving the locker room.

It seems her father found his way to the locker room after receiving that morning picture of his daughter.

The coach takes a glimpse at me, showed me a pocket watch to be mindful of time and leaves with the rest.

I toss the cake back in the bag, straight myself and then crossed my legs.

My first bodyguard gave me a lighter and stuff a cigarette in my mouth. Feeling like the boss is the best expression ever.

My eyes stay focus on the exit door which my father in law uses to approach me.

He's furious, his eyes burns and his body viberates. It's like he had cried and my lips curved upward in delight.

My men obstructed him from coming closer. The last time, we met, he broke my nose and I chopped off his fingers in return.

Our relationship is complicated but I'm never forgiving him for the past. He didn't even show up with his thugs.

He's learning.

He got close to me, rather than starting a fight, he suddenly breaths hard and said;

"Let go of her, you monster, it's me you want!"

It's too early to surrender. My eyes lowered at him as I bite my cigarette.

I ignored his statement, gesturing to my men to move aside just so I see him clearly.

"I swear, I'd make up for it kid... please let go of my poor child, she can't bear this"

His voice sounded like a pang in my ears and watching him beg me like I'm a god feels so good.

I steepled my fingers together, bent slightly and muttered;

"Go on your knees"

He narrowed his eyes at me, like I was absurd. His vein tightens as he clenched his fists.

"You stole my daughter from me and now you want to humiliate..."

"I don't think you care about her life" I snapped playing with the lighter in my hand.

Almost immediately, he falls to his knees and I raised my shoulders high while looking down on him.

"Please Kyle, take me, not that sweet child, she's innocent"

I was tired of hearing that line over and over again. It gladdens me to see him broken, taking his weakness from him must really hurt.

I told him I'd come back for him and hit even harder.

"Take a picture of this and send it to his beloved daughter..."

I paused, spit out the cigarette on him and grinned the more as one of my men did just that with my iPad.

"Hashtag, the princess superhero is a whimp"

Miguel lowered his head, wistfully, his breath, ragged and deliberate.

I rose up, knowing that my teammates would be tired of waiting. They're left with no choice than to wait.

Besides, how will they win without me? I'm everyone's god.

My feet scurries away from him, no response but an order that he should be thrown out because he's bad luck.

I'd watch him take his life due to depression. It's my sweet revenge.

"Kyle please! I beg you, even if it means killing myself for..."

I plugged my ears with my ear pod, not ready to hear his whining as i watched him being dragged out.

My hands gave every gadget on me to my third bodyguard.

Dressed in full gear with my stick in my hand, I jogged towards the entrance of the rink.

There I can see my teammates gathered for the game.

The smell of ice and equipment filled the air, and my team's chatter buzzed with pre-game energy.

I was ready to join them on the ice, to battle for wins and play with the intensity i was known for.

The loud cheer from outside the arena could cause an eruption. The chants, the excitement, all harmonizing as one.

That's my name being chanted. Everyone is out here to see me, their favorite player.

My girlfriend Mia is here too, she's the only one I bring along with me for such an event and everyone anticipates for us to get married.

Pathetic.

After some boring words of encouragement from the coach, he offered a faint smile at me, knowing we are winning the games.

As I reached for the tunnel to the field, my third bodyguard suddenly approaches me with my phone.

It was a call from an unknown number and he mouthed the name of the person.

Taking the phone from him, I responded immediately and a husky voice salutes;

"Hello dear friend"

My breath ceased for a moment as blood dries from my vein but I tried to appear relaxed.

"I have a lot of friends, there's no harm if you tell me your name" I played along, still tensed as the voice sounded familiar.

"Right. But now, I'm staring at your pretty wife... About to be burnt down in your villa, she's stucked and I'm ready to serve her grilled body to you..."

Robert! My rival on the field. His career got crumble because of me and he's one who cuts straight to the chase.

He's telling me what he wants to do to_i can't even recall her name.

My world narrowed to those words as I turned away from the rink, the urgency to get out cut through my muscles.

"I swear Robert, touch her and you die!"

He chuckles through the phone and suddenly sends a picture to me.

It was one of his men hiding at the lounge of my house, ready to strike with a gun.

"You think you're a god Kyle?"

Panic flushes through me as I froze to a spot.

I gestured to my third bodyguard, Fred to try contacting her with my other phone but her line isn't connecting.

"What do you fucking want!" I screeched on the phone, my pulse thuds faster than usual.

"To see you lose it"

He terminates the call and I barged my phone to the ground, terrified.

My teammates called out as I was leaving them behind.

"Where are you going dude!" Aaron yelled but I was already moving fast, stripping off my gloves and helmet as I exited the rink.

Mira appears out of the blue, obstructing my path. She always steals a kiss before joining the crowd in the arena.

My eyes scan her t_shirt which has my name boldly written on it. Her happy face switches to a curious one.

"What's wrong tiger? We need you out there" she says with worries in her eyes but I was too occupied to even notice her.

I haul her away from my path to reach for my car. Luckily, I was able to avoid the fans at the parking lots through the help of my bodyguards.

Getting into my car and taking control of the gears, I speed through the traffic with my mind fixed on reaching that girl, on getting her to safety.
