The comments section under my latest Instagram post is a wasteland. Where there used to be fire emojis and thirsty compliments, now there's nothing but hate. "Imagine rejecting the Ice Angel," someone writes. "Timothy Blackthorn is an idiot," says another.

My thumb hovers over the delete button, but what's the point? There are thousands of them now.
