The moment they pulled Penelope through that service door, something snapped inside me.

Kael surged forward, and I let him come partway. My hands shifted without thinking—claws tearing through two of Viktor's men before they could react. I felt the gunshot before I heard it, a round clipping my shoulder and spinning me sideways. By the time I righted myself, the door had slammed shut.
