Chapter 4

The next morning, she was gone.

Well, he had expected that.

Still, it didn't stop the weird feeling that curled up knowing he had to wake up without seeing her.

That is, if he could call what he did sleep.

Her presence alone has stolen every form of sleep from his body.

There was an effect she had on him.

An effect knowing she was in the other room, had on him.

A strange effect that began the moment she walked into his cottage.

Jaxon couldn't deny the immediate attraction that sparked inside of him.

And it wasn't just about the beauty, there was something else.

Something he, a Mafia lord, wanted to have so badly.

While taking a bath, all he could think about was how her hands had held the glass of water he handed.

How she spoke about wolves without seeming to think she sounded dimwitted.

The weirdest part is the fact that for the first time ever, someone shut him up while he was still talking.

Something no one had ever dared to think of doing.

Yet she had.

And the strangest part was that he heeded and actually shut up.

No one had ever had that effect on him.

No one.

Which was why he couldn't just let her go.

No way. He had to get her.

And one thing about Jaxon Don was that he got whatever he wanted.

"Leave me! Let me go! I demand you let me go! Do you know who my father is?! Do you know what territory I'm from!" The man screamed as he was being pulled violently by two men clad in black.

Jaxon sat cross-legged watching them throw the man till he fell at his feet.

Another thing about him…

He must get everyone to fall at his feet if they didn't do what he wanted.

Dakal stared up, face red, blood spilling from his forehead, swollen eyes bleeding.

When he saw Jaxon, his eyes widened. "Oh no no no. Not you Don. No, not you."

"He is from the Blodcard territory sir," one of the men that'd been dragging him said, "he's the one who's killed the men and women."

"No No, I didn't know he was related to you! I would never kill a Jaxon man! I'm sorry, I'm sorry.” The horror echoed in Dakal's voice.

Because obviously, he could smell his fate.

Another man walked in, clad in a suit that looked ironed ten times.

Owen Haggard didn't give the pleading man a glance and just took to standing beside his boss.

The mob boss.

“Get rid of him.” Jaxon simply said, and the men immediately did as told, pulling Dakal, whose pleading grew louder, away from the room.

Owen held his professional posture, hands glued behind him as he watched his boss lift a cigarette stick and light it.

“A female slept over at my cottage last night. Black hair, brown eyes.”

The words surprised Owen, but being the man he'd been trained to be, he didn't let it show.

But heck, Jaxon had never allowed anyone into his private cottage without telling them beforehand, not to talk of a female sleeping over.

“Owen.”

“Sir?”

“Get her for me.”

It was an order.

One that was unquestionable and needed to be followed.

Owen knew that.

It must be followed.

“Okay sir.”

*

Zayne stood beside the floor to ceiling window, supposed to be staring at the beautiful view of California.

But he couldn't focus on that.

How the heck was he supposed to, when his wolf wouldn't let him.

It still surprised him.

His mate was a human?

Him? The alpha to the biggest wolf clan had a human mate?

How could that even be?

When he'd met her last night, all he wanted was a one night stand.

But his wolf had surprised him with the news on her being his mate.

Of course, he hadn't been willing to accept that at first.

But the moment danger appeared and he noticed she was in the middle of it, his wolf grew furious.

All it wanted to do was protect her at all cost.

Which was why it didn't mind killing all three men that had been stupid enough to challenge him.

It also brought him to reality.

Because the truth of the matter was that his mate was a human.

After waiting so many years for a Luna, he finally got his mate… And it has to be a human?

All night, his wolf had stirred and demanded to meet her again.

It wanted to have her by its side again.

Her scent filled his whole being.

So near, yet so far.

He needed to have her close by so his wolf would be able to rest.

So he would be able to rest.

A knock came on the door.

“Come in.”

With that, the door opened, closing behind him.

He didn't need to turn to know who it was.

Aeden Davison stared at his alpha who had his back towards him, hands in the pocket of his pants.

“You called sir.” He moved to stand beside the desk as trained, noting that something was obviously bothering Zayne.

It wasn't easy to notice, but after working for ten years, Aeden could assume he knew him better than others.

And he could note there was something on his mind.

But what could it be?

“Did you clear the blood stains?”

“Yes sir.”

There was a few seconds of silence, and as trained, Aeden kept quiet, waiting for his alpha's next words.

“I met this lady,” he finally spoke after a moment.

But it certainly wasn't what Aeden had expected to hear.

“Her name is Renee. Black hair, brown eyes.”

Slowly, he turned, holding Aeden’s gaze. “Find her.”

It was an order.

An order from the strongest alpha of all packs worldwide.

An unquestionable order. An order that had to be followed.

“Yes sir.”
