Reedah's POV
I turned around and met eyes with a black-haired woman and my guts twisted. I had seen everyone in this house except her. My memories jingled, I could see her, but I didn’t know who she was.
Something in me told me she was absolutely bad news, but I couldn’t do anything about it, not when Dylan was smiling calmly at her. Maybe my instincts were wrong?
“Well, look at you two lovebirds! And I thought you would never get along. I told you she’d come around, Dylan, but your grumpy ass wouldn’t listen to me.” Dylan held me tighter, and a fire went down my spine.
“Don’t be ridiculous, Diana. You didn’t like her to begin with, but here we are. What brings my lovely cousin home?” Her eyes twinkled in delight and I frowned deeply.
Why was she looking at him like that, like she had something going on with him? Hurt crossed my heart and I shook my head. That’s not possible. Diana was his cousin. He couldn’t cheat on me with her.
My eyes burned as I remembered Felix and what he had done. If Dylan did something like that, I had no doubt I would kill him myself and rule the...
Stop antagonizing him! He could kill you in the blink of an eye!
“Earth to Reedah!” Something clicked in front of me and I looked at Dylan with a smile.
“Sorry, I just… I should welcome Diana very...” I looked at the door and realized she was gone. “...Let me help her settle in.” I tried to get up but he pulled me into his hold again.
“Diana has lived here all her life. There’s no need to do that, you know that. Are you sure you’re alright? You seem like you’ve lost a memory or two.” I frowned, and he chuckled, which almost made me choke.
I knew the memories I had weren’t mine, but the real Reedah hadn’t seen him so much as break into a smile, let alone chuckle.
It sounded so calm. I needed to collect my memories together to be able to live here, or he might just discover I’m not his real wife at all.
“I need to get some rest...” I let out a fake yawn as I stepped out of his arms. “...All that fighting has made me tired.” He nodded before resuming his work.
I walked away and stood by the door to glance at him. My heart fluttered, but the hatred in me screamed not to stare at him, knowing he was not a nice man.
All he did was pretend. Disgust made my toes curl, and I knew too well I needed to create a barrier between myself and this wretch of a man.
A wretch of a man, yet he was so sweet to you. I thought you promised to start over?
My inner thoughts questioned, and I sighed. I really needed to stop finding reasons to be pissed, but what truly was this man? He didn’t seem as dangerous as everyone claimed he was.
Walking down the corridor, I felt eyes on me but ignored the servants as they whispered. I needed a collection of my memories to know how to act in this God-forsaken body, and most importantly, to find out what Diana was truly up to.
“Don’t you think she’s different?”
“She isn’t yelling at us like always.”
“Are you sure she’s alright?”
Whispers traveled across the hall, making me cling to my dress. What kind of cruel woman yells at her staff often?
I slammed the door to my room and my heart lunged into my throat as I saw Diana at the window blowing smoke. I cleared my throat.
“What are you doing here?” My voice was deep as disgust crawled down my spine. I genuinely didn’t like her at all.
“Just like old times, Reedah. How about we hang out later and then you can tell me all about you and Dylan. And... I brought you a gift!” She picked up a book and gave it to me with a smile so fake it deserved a standing ovation.
“Thank you, and I don’t know about hanging out. I’m still recovering.” She walked to me and held me tight, and I fought the urge to pat her back.
“Then we could do it when you’re ready. Is that okay?”
“Sure.” I smiled and she left.
I drowned into my bed after she was gone. My eyes closed as I watched the memory of everything play. Everything was complete chaos. Reedah was not, in fact, a nice person.
My body jolted as there was a knock on the door.
“Come in.” A maid walked in and I immediately stood up. “Can I help you with anything?” She paled, as though I had told her I was going to kill her.
“Alpha has asked you to come downstairs for dinner.” I sighed and got up.
“I’ll be there in a moment.”
“Y... Yes, Luna.”
I couldn’t imagine what the real Reedah had done, but I had a bad feeling. I knew, I just couldn’t clearly remember.
I got to the table and Diana was having a full-on conversation with Dylan, who was surprisingly quiet, either shaking his head or banging his spoon against the plate.
“Reedah, what took you so long? Come and take a seat next to me.” Diana turned around with a frown. Her chatty self was suddenly gone.
She was still, stabbing at her food. According to the memories, she had always been like this to me, not chatty like she pretended.
Dinner was silent as we ate. The tension in the air was thick enough to cut with a pair of scissors.
My head swirled and sweat broke out on my back. Everything doubled, I could barely see. Dylan’s mouth moved but I couldn’t hear anything.
My vision filled with black dots, and the last thing I heard was my name from Dylan... I think.
“Reedah!”
