I heard the reporters’ applause, their smiles fixed on me, stunned. They had no idea I was just as shocked by the news. Some even stood up, so impressed by my supposed gesture—one that had nothing to do with me.

Since when would I donate to anyone? A year of free treatment? Even if they sued, they wouldn’t get that willingly!
