I knew from the moment we came back to the city that everything would change.

Our flight left in the afternoon and arrived in the evening. Knight drops me off at my apartment because he’ll be going straight to his office. It’s past office hours. I don’t know why he seems to be unable to let go of his work.

"I’ll call you," he said when his car stopped.

I nodded and didn’t even glance at him. I got my body bag prepared to go out of the car.
