As I left Marvin’s room, I met two of the bodyguards at the entrance, well stationed.
“Hey,” I whispered. They turned and looked attentively at me.
“Did Larry tell you who I was and how you were hired,” I asked.
“Yes,” they echoed.
“You should be protected as primary principal at all times before Marvin, Ma,” said the leader.
“Perfect! You always take your second information from me. Every information passes through me first, is that okay?” I asked. They nodded in the affirmative.
I sent Larry a text informing him about the birthday party and that I needed his help. There would be too many people, though I had begged Ken to peg it at a hundred, I knew he would not, in other just to show he was in charge.
I got Larry’s text affirming that he would be there with some extra help. I quickly sent the invite to him through one of my trusted maids.
I called Rose to inform her that she would be heading the stewards in the evening at the party and that she should keep her eyes open and personally ensure that every drink or food passed to Marvin should be through her.
Rose was very happy to hear that she was in charge. She asked if her husband could come. I told her it was strictly by invitation.
The sun was settling down as Marvin came looking for me. He was dressed for our supposed outing.
I looked at the gown he but for me again. I had made a slit on the gown for easy movement. I strapped two guns and my knives as usual. They were perfectly hidden in the gown. I had to prepare and I felt I had not prepared enough.
There are going to be a lot of people and I don’t want surprises. Marvin had not known what he was going to face out there. I was certainly not sure he would like it. He just wanted to go out with me.
“Where are you Cass?” He came down the stairs asking.
“I am right here,” I said, coming out of my room.
“You look, Sugar! You look great,” he said.
“I look like sugar, what do you mean?” I asked, pretending not to know what he meant.
“I mean you look sweet, Cass,” he said.
“Thank you. You are not looking bad yourself,” I said.
“What have you done to the gown, babe? It was designers,” he said, looking surprised.
I felt sorry for him. I did not want to change the dress as I had intended that it was what he bought I would put on but I needed to be able to move and fight with it in case there was a need for that.
“I wanted to be free, Marvin,” I said.
“I don’t understand, but it is a free gown, babe,” he said.
“I am a street girl, remember, and when we want something free, it has to allow us to kick a ball,” I said, laughing out loud.
“Well, it looked good on you,” he said as he led me to the car.
Ken sent me a message to tell me all was set and that they were expecting us.
“Marvin, please can I pick up something from the office?” I asked.
“No dear, you know we are already late,” he said.
“Please, it is important I pick it up,” I said.
“You could have picked it up since, nope we are not changing direction,” he insisted.
“Marvin! It is your gift!” I exclaimed.
“What? Okay,’ I am sorry.
We got to the parking space in the basement and signaled to the other bodyguards to wait behind for us. It was our plan for them to usher in Larry. Marvin followed me as I rushed to the conference room.
“Wait a minute,” he said.
“Yes,” I replied.
“You mean you kept a gift you wanted to give to me in the conference room,” he said,
“Yes, go ahead and open the door and check for yourself,” I said.
When he opened the door, the crowd we saw surprised him and surprised me. This was not planned. There were more than three hundred people in the hall.
“Happy birthday!!!” everyone shouted.
Marvin gently pushed me aside and whispered into my eyes. “What have you done?”
“Not me, you can thank Ken later,” I said.
I went to meet Marvin to excuse myself, when I met Shantel and Ken were talking to him.
“Excuse me, Marvin, I need to use the restroom,” I said.
“Wow! You did not tell me you had a date, Marvin,” said Shantel.
“Oh no, she is not his date, she is the Head Cleaner in the office,” Ken said.
My drink gushed out of my mouth upon hearing that, I immediately looked at Ken with so much disgust.
“Are you okay?” Marvin asked me.
“I am,” I said.
“Is it true?” asked Shantel
Without saying a word, Marvin left them and was greeting other guests one after the other when my phone beeped. It was Larry asking me to go to the basement immediately. That there was an emergency.
What is this emergency? What could have happened? I thought the plan was to let the bodyguards bring him to the conference room immediately after he arrived. He was making me leave Marvin alone with almost three hundred people. I hurriedly went to the restroom before rushing down the basement.
I took out my gun and checked for the bullets. Everything looked intact. I slowly rushed down to the basement. Everywhere was dark. I was wondering why anyone would put off the light. I took out my phone to use the torch on the phone. immediately its light came on, a hand covered the light. It was Larry.
"Josh is here, you better want to put that out," he said.
"Do you have a positive idea of his location? I asked
"No, he has killed a bodyguard already, so I would advise you to be careful.
“Okay, so where are the other bodyguards"? I asked
"I don't know," he said.
