“We want to know if you are domestically violated, as you know we don’t tolerate that here. You must not cover up for Mr. Marvin if he had committed that offense,” the officer said.
“Are you for real? Marvin asked.
“Please, Mr. Marvin, you would allow me to do my job, or I would take you in for obstruction. I will not say this again” the officer said.
“Okay, officer, what would you want to know my boss is becoming disturbed by this,” I said.
“You said you were attacked by a group of boys. Did you happen to see any of their faces?” the officer asked.
“No, I cannot, I cannot remember a lot last night. We were at my boss's birthday party and I think I went down to take something home. The first hit made me black out though I could hear voices, and then I started to fight back with everything I had got. That’s the truth, officer. I wish I could remember more,” I said.
“By home, what did you mean his house or your house, miss Cassie?” The officer asked.
“By home, I mean here, you are in my room. Please officer, look around, I am in charge of the cleaners and maids and do some administrative work for Mr. Marvin,” I said.
“Administrative work, how do you mean?” the officer asked.
“Administrative work is administrative work,” I said.
“Okay, Cassie, I only want to be sure you are okay, it is good to see you in good shape,” The officer said, handing me his card, “ please do not hesitate to call me if you remember anything strange that night,” the officer said.
Walking towards the door, he turned to Marvin, “Is there any explanation as to why you did not take her to the hospital but you brought her here?” He asked.
Oh. Well, the family doctor was not in his office and that hospital was far away considering the state she was in, Doctor Jakes was already close to the house. He checked her and found he could stabilize her,” Marvin said.
“You could have called an ambulance or something, so Doctor Jakes is your doctor?” the officer asked.
Yes, he is” Marvin said.
Alright, here is my card. Please call me if you have anything more to add to your story,” he said.
“I did not get your name,” Marvin said.
“I thought you were smart, as everyone thinks, it’s in the card, and by the way, we don’t have such a group of boys in your story living in this city, have a good day, and happy birthday Mr. Marvin,” said the officer as he left us to our silence.
We looked at ourselves for a few minutes, which was intense, and I did not know the officer kept probing. Was it that he suspected something or was there a report? Did the bodyguard not dispose of the body discreetly, or was Larry caught? So many questions were playing in my head until Marvin asked his.
“So your name is Cassie and not Cax?” He asked.
“Yes as stated in my application, but you already know you can call me Cax for now,” I said.
“That’s okay, my love,” he said.
“So what does this Officer Page want with you? Did you steal his girlfriend?” I asked.
“I really don’t know, there has been something I said that triggered him last night, but I really do not know.”
“So what do we do? He would keep coming because he seemed not satisfied by our responses,” I said.
“I am sure he is just that kind of cop who wants to get the headlines with a billionaire. If not, why is he all over the place even when you are here confirming to him that you are really okay and that you work for me,” Marvin said.
“You have to get him off our backs, Marvin,” I said.
“I will ask Ken to look into it,” Marvin said.
“Then you should be ready to tell Ken what happened to me and you know he won’t buy this story we just gave to the police, you will have to tell him the truth,” I said.
“Of course, I can’t. Telling Ken would also mean that Uncle Jonah knows. I am sure they have been looking into you now, your fighting skills are really excellent for a street girl,” Marvin said.
How did you know about Ken and Uncle Jonah?” I asked.
“I have been doing my own investigation, nothing shows that they are conniving against me yet, but they have been seen together far too often and, from all indications, it looked like Ken does not want me to be associated with any woman and that would help my uncle’s course,” Marvin said.
“So we have to get you a wife, right?” I said.
“That is, if you are still sticking to your stubborn position you will not wife me,” Marvin said.
“You know I may have to kill you someday,” I said jokingly, with lips wide open.
“I know you are good, but I have a black belt in Karate and Judo,” Marvin said.
“I don’t believe you,” I said.
“Well, nobody knows except you, for now, my father put me through that shit preparing me for life after he has gone,” Marvin said.
“So why did you allow me to go all through this stress of trying to save your ass without even throwing a punch,” I said, shocked by the revelation I had just heard.
“I am sorry, my love, but you did all that stuff because you love me, and why the hell do I have and pay bodyguards for?" Marvin said.
“You are just a spoiled selfish brat,” I said.
He bent over and kissed me. My eyes were hurting but I would rather have a kiss. I clutched at him even with my bandages. He tried to resist but I was not having it.
How am I going to tell this young man that I have fallen in love with him and I am supposed to kill him? How am I going to tell him that I am an assassin and the only reason he is alive is because I am objecting to a contract I have signed to see his death?
Tears rolled down my cheeks, and he was just kissing them, hugging me while trying not to cause any discomforting pain. In just a few months, we have grown fond of each other and have gone through many challenges. I felt like telling him the truth, but that would destroy what we have now. He kissed me all over my face.
“I love you Cax,” was all he could mutter.
“I love you, Marvin,” I replied.
“Thank you for coming into my world, you made it lit.”
