I woke up feeling refreshed the next morning. Larry was nowhere to be found and I knew he was going to get breakfast. I dragged myself out of bed into the bathroom to have a shower.
Larry came back with two cups of coffee and two burgers. I ate the burgers as if I had not eaten them for days. He just watched me and smiled. I wore my undies, leaving out my bra as my pointed breasts were pointing in every direction I faced.
“You are still naked as long as those things of yours keep looking at me,” Larry said.
“They don’t have eyes and they are not looking at you. Could you help me with this?” I asked, giving him the bag where I had kept the guns. We were arranging the apartment and putting things in order when I heard my phone ring.
It was the contractor. I picked up his call, smiling at myself. I almost knew what the call was all about.
“You have fulfilled the deed of the contract but there is also a small problem,” the Contractor said with his husky voice.
“Zach and Sanchez, right,” I asked.
“Yes, you killed them. They were also my hires and the contract was not open. You are not supposed to kill any of my hires whenever you are on a closed contract,” The Contractor said.
I moved away from where Larry was and moved to the bathroom and locked it. “You knew that was impossible before you sent me,” I said.
“We both knew the outcome,” The Contractor said. He was now coughing and I was not finding this easy.
“I am number two, right,” I said.
“Yes you are, Cassie,” he said.
“I did it in self-defense and it was stated in my contract that if attacked I have the right to self-defense,” I said.
“But you have no proof,” the contractor said.
“Neither do they,” I said.
“Okay, you have made your point but you know I cannot stop them from coming after you,” the Contractor said.
“Neither can you stop me from defending myself or killing those idiots,” I said with every anger I felt.
“Tell me about the contract to kill Marvin,” he asked. I paused and held my breath for a few seconds. I knew I had to detach every emotional feeling connected to this question or else I would get a lot of people killed.
“The Ba*tard is still alive because you attached some stupid conditions to the contract,” I claimed, knowing fully well he would kill to have the documents I got from Marvin.
“What conditions number two?” the Contractor asked. He called me number two for the first time and this shows the level of trust and respect he had for any hire when you are called your level, especially when you are in the top ten.
“Killing him and making it look natural and the hardest getting the documents. Because of this, I have given him my body and honestly, I want my body back,” I lied perfectly without causing any doubt.
“Your body is not yours given the contract. Don’t fail me number two, you have less than two months now,” the contractor said as he hung up.
I went back to the room to meet Larry, anxiously waiting for me. He looked confused, as he did not know whether to sit or stand
.
“Calm down Larry, we are good to go,” I said.
“So what did the Contractor say? I cannot be calm Cassie, what did he say, you are taking so much risk and I don’t like it, What did he say?” Larry was almost fidgeting, I could not understand why he was always nervous whenever it was about the Contractor.
“He complained…” I had not completed the sentence when Larry shouted,
“...He complained about what? I knew this would happen,” Larry said,
“Larry just calm down, it’s nothing really!” I shouted back at him.
“So tell me what did the Contractor say?” Larry said toning down his voice.
That’s what I have been trying to tell you, the Martinez gang laid a complaint about me, that’s all.,” I said trying my best to calm him down.
“That’s not good but that’s better than what I thought,” Larry said.
“We have to find a way to deal with the Martinez Gang issue,” I said.
The Contractor had said they were free to come after me and I was free to respond and defend myself. I knew he was underestimating me and just wanted the documents. If I gave him the documents, he would allow the Martinez Gang to take a free roll on me. I was not going to allow that to happen to me or Larry or even Marvin.
“What do you have in mind,” Larry asked me.
“I don’t know yet but I would love you to pull out all the information you have on the Martinez Gang. I would also want to have a meeting with Sancho,” I said, looking at Larry, who was in turn looking surprised at me because I mentioned Sancho.
“You want to have a meeting with Sancho! You just killed Sanchez, he was his twin!” Larry stated, wondering what my thoughts were
.
“Sancho owes me a thing,” I said.
“No, Cassie, Sancho owes you a bullet for killing his twin brother,” Larry replied.
I knew it was a tough call, but I would not sit back and do nothing about it when I knew the whole system was designed to kill me I had offended too many people. When this deal is over and I have handed the documents to the Contractor, I will have no leverage. My only way out is to destroy the Martinez Gang if I still want to be relevant. The Contractor knew what he was doing. How could he send a whole gang after one person? But I was not deterred, I had a plan
.
“Larry, just get me the meeting and please make it this week, our lives depend on that meeting,” I said.
“Whatever you are planning, don’t take down the next leader of the Martinez Gang, whatever it is, don’t add Sancho to your kill,” Larry said. I did not know whether it was advice or a warning. He was really concerned and I was not going to let the cat out of the bag just yet.
It’s okay Larry, I got this,” I said.
“Clean this up quickly and it would be better for us if you could eliminate Marvin this month. You only have two months left on the contract. Get that document and ease the pain of that young man so we can move on with our lives,” Larry said.
I smiled, I wish he knew what was going on in my mind. There is something definitely not right about this whole thing. I think I am being used and set up by the Contractor.
“I need to get to Marvin, please can you help me get the apartment cleaned?” I said, he nodded his head in the affirmative.
As I got to the door and turned and told him, “Whatever you do, get me that meeting with Sancho, I need to speak with him.
Okay boss, it looks like you are bent on killing us too,” Larry said as he threw one of the pillows at me, laughing.
“No I am bent on killing anyone that comes in my way,” I said, closing the door as I left for the office that morning.
