CHAPTER 42: ALLIES

I was angry at what Sancho had just told me. Why should I marry him? He was not even my type of man. That he was a prospective leader of the Gang does not make him a suitable husband. All he wanted from me was security for his position and I was not willing to tow that line.

I have given him the best possible way we can help ourselves as allies. Not this. I had known Sancho to be mysterious. Yes, he was the prospective leader of the notorious Martinez Gang but I was not going to give in to this.

Sancho was a man of few words, His eyes were bright as the sunlight,, we both held different secrets of our lives and I was not going to remind him of how I saved him and saved his unborn baby. I felt he was ungrateful. His eyes locked onto mine expecting a response.

“I don’t know what you want me to say, this is ridiculous,” I said.

"Cassie, You have a tough decision to make," he said.

“I am sorry my decision still stands in what I told you” I said.

.

"Cassie," he began, his eyes softening, "I've seen a lot in this life, and I've done things I'm not proud of. But when I look at you, I see a chance for something better, something different." Sancho said.

My eyes widened in surprise. "Sancho, I don't understand. What are you saying?"

Sancho took a deep breath, his gaze never leaving mine. "I'm saying that I want us to leave all this behind, the gang, the violence, everything. And I want you to come with me." he said

My heart pounded in my chest. I thought Sancho must be going crazy because I had never expected this. "You're... you're asking me to go with you? But where would we go?" I asked

"Anywhere you want, Cassie. I want to start fresh, away from all of this. I want to marry you, build a life together, away from the darkness." Sancho said.

I had thought his purpose for wanting to marry me was to have a formidable partnership so that he could lead the Gang and have control but not this.

"Sancho, I've always seen something in you, something that made me believe you were more and better than the other leaders. Can we really leave all of it behind?" Iasked.

“You don’t have many allies, a lot of people want you dead including the largest gang in the world, they will come after you with everything they have got. They will take everything you have. Is that the life you want?” Sancho asked me.

I was not prepared for this as I never thought the conversation would ever go this way. I was not going to marry a man I had no feelings for, I will just kill him and his daughter. But what Sancho was saying made sense I need allies.

“Sancho, I will get Lisandro out of the way for you, You will lead the Martinez Gang and make me your successor. You have to go back and get things in order. Yes, my life is in danger and I know I can survive in dangerous situations but you are in a serious sh*t and if you don’t act now you will not live to see your daughter’s next birthday. Call me when you set things in order,” I said, I gave him a hug and I left the building with his men looking at me as if they had seen a ghost.

I did not know why I hugged him. I did not believe that Sancho could be this emotional after all he had been through. Now that I have a clue that he has a weakness, which is his love and feelings for me I was going to use it to my advantage.

I got to the office and Marvin was already waiting for me at the door of my office. “You cannot just stand there,” I said, waving my hands for him to move so that I could enter the office as he was at the entrance.

“I can stand anywhere, I own the building,” He said laughing.

“Alright rub it in, but let me go in at least,” I said now also laughing.

“I thought we were going out for lunch,” Marvin said.

“Who did you plan that with because I am very certain it was not me,” I said.

I could not undress with Marvin there and he could sense the uneasiness in my dressing. The weapons I had underneath the coat were beginning to make me uncomfortable. I wanted to go to the rest room but the other dress was under my table, he would notice.

“You know what, why don’t you go and freshen up and let me do the same and this lunch of yours can happen,” I said.

He left my office quickly as a child sent on an errand and I dashed to my rest room trying to remove the vest and other things when I got a call.

“I agree to your demands but you have seven days to kill Lisandro, and one more thing be careful they are already coming for you,” it was Sancho!

I did not know whether to jump or to dance. I was happy that he had accepted my offer and I got his warning but I was already in danger, The Contractor had not call so all I needed to do was to stay alive before that call.

"Cass come out, I am ready, please, don't make us go late for this lunch, I have so many things to do," Marvin said.

I thought about undressing again, I was better off in these clothes and undressing means I was going to take some time.

"Hello handsome I am ready," I said adjusting the knives and guns I had underneath my clothes.
