CHAPTER 43: LUNCH ATTACK

Marvin was great fun to be with. I wondered if he noticed how uneasy I was because I knew the Martinez Gang was up to something. If they were not here at the restaurant, then I would be surprised. Marvin was having fun and I really did not want the fun to cease. The food was great and he was right. It’s been a long time since we had anything close to this.

“Are you okay, my love?” he asked me.

“I am, though I am concerned,” I said.

“About the food or what? I think the food is great. Well, mine is. I told you to try this but you refused,” Marvin said.

Why does he take things too casually? After so many attempts at his life, he still wants us exposed by having lunch. I felt it did not make sense. Marvin knew something I didn’t know or else I do not know why he was risking his life and mine. He needs to get married and keep the company and that does not bother him either.

I kept looking around us and scanning the area. I had to be aware. The gang was predictable. It was difficult to concentrate on Marvin and at the same time watch out for our safety.

I would have informed the bodyguards, but I can not do that now without raising suspicions. Marvin was talking but I could not pay attention. He asked a question and I did not hear him quite well.

“What did you say again?” I said, turning my view towards a Martinez Gang member going towards the kitchen.

“I just asked you what is wrong with your food?” Marvin asked again, indicating with his hands that I had not touched the food.

I looked at the food. I was not actually eating it but I had finished two glasses of wine. My anxiety level was up and this was because I had sensed danger.

“Oh, sorry, my bad, there is too much everything in it, I will go to the kitchen to fix it,” I said. Now I had seen three additional gang members around us and I needed to draw them away from Marvin.

“You don’t need to go to the kitchen to do that, let me call one of the staff. I told you not to try that dish, you are too stubborn Cass,” Marvin said.

But I had stood up and already walking towards the kitchen. One of the men stopped me and I took out my knife as swiftly as I could and placed it on his neck. I was shocked to see he only raised up his hands in surrender.

“Why are you here? I can not be killed that easily. I thought you guys should have known by now,” I said as I pointed my gun at the other two.

“We are not here to kill you. We are here to protect and warn you. Sancho does not want you dead, but he has moved the calendar nearer for the kill on Lisandro. You have three days to do the job,” he said while dispersing the others.

“Tell Sandro about changing the timeline. He owes me one more thing. I will collect it when I think of it. Tell him until I receive his call there is no confirmation of what you just told me. Now, without causing a scene, you can leave. Let me enjoy my lunch,” I said.

Marvin was already finishing his food by the time I came back, it was either I took a long time or he was very hungry.

“You can not even act like a gentleman, you have already finished your food!” I said, pointing to his plate.

“I thought you were a street girl. How can I be a gentleman to a street girl? Have they made it to your taste since you are coming back with the same meal,” he said, also pointing to my plate of food.

“Of course, who can resist my charm? I told you I was going to get it fixed,” I said so happily. I was happy at the fact that it was working out between me and Sancho.

Well, Lisandro had to go earlier than I thought and why has the Contractor not called me up till now? I know he wants to clear all questions but I need the balance of my fee and I need protection for myself and Marvin.

Marvin interrupted my thoughts. “ We are almost home. Are you coming to my room later on?” he said.

“You coerced me to have lunch with you though I had given you a better offer than lunch. Sorry, my dear, you only get one wish,” I said.

“That's not fair, you were hungry too,” he said.

“Okay, but you need a wife,” I said.

“I do not need a wife, I need you,” Marvin said.

“I am not your wife and you can not marry me. Tomorrow I am calling someone for you. Marvin, you need to get a wife, and time is running out,” I said.

“Why don’t you want to marry me?” Marvin asked.

“Marvin, I cannot repeat myself. I will always be here for you. I can not marry you,” I said.

“You just want me to get married to whoever, even if I do not love the person?” Marvin cried out.

“I want you to get your inheritance. I want you to be safe. I do not want anyone cheating you on what belongs to you and I am ready to sacrifice my happiness for that,” I said. I was already in tears. I wish he could understand that, though

I wanted him, I cannot have him.

Marrying him is endangering and exposing him to so many factors, including the contractor. He needed to marry and keep his inheritance. His marriage will give me ample time to solve the mystery around the Contractor and Uncle Jonah. He needs to buy me time with my happiness or his marriage.

“That reminds me, you have not yet gone to visit Uncle Jonah,” I said.

“Since what happened to my father I have been careful of him. My father suspected he was the one that hired the assassin that made a hit on my father,” Marvin said.

“Just pay him a visit. I will be there with you,” I said.

“As what if I may ask?” Marvin asked.

“As your PA. As your personal assistant,” I said.

We got home and Marvin walked quickly to his room without saying anything to me. I told the bodyguards to be on high alert and I went to my room. I was very tired. I removed my clothes, kept my vest, guns, and knives in my bag for weapons, and went completely naked to the bathroom.

When I finished my bath, I walked towards the bed. I got a phone call from Sancho. “I got your message, we have a deal,” he said.

“Why did you change your mind and move the timeline” I asked.

“Lisandro has already made a move on me. I want him dead and all the six men in his circle,” Sancho said.

“The six men are yours to kill, Lisandro, and whoever comes in my way is my target,” I said.

“Okay, I will sort them out and just do your job. You’ve got three days,” he said and hung up the phone.

Marvin came in as I was ending the call. I did not know what he heard. “ Who were you talking to Cass?” he asked.

“No one really, just ensuring everyone is safe and accounted for,” I said.

“Who is Lisandro?” He asked me as he crawled into my naked body with his mouth already on my nipple.

I was not going to answer that. I was not ready for that conversation when his mouth was on my nipple doing funny things. I grabbed him and started removing his shorts.

“Is my lover boy jealous,” I said as I turned him over. He was now naked. Watching his naked body always gives me this joy.

"I will never be jealous of someone you plan to kill," he said.
