These days I sit in the office all to myself and most of the time thinking about what was to be my next move. Being pregnant was not one of my plans, but it has changed the dynamics of things.
I have two security chiefs in the office. These days, they help me out with all the security tasks. They were very good. We were in the meeting when I got the call from the Contractor.
“Guys can we continue later, I have to take this call,” I said as I excused myself from them and asked them to leave and come back later, my heart pounding with anxiety, as I closed all the doors and shut all the windows and still moved to a more secluded spot, away from prying eyes and ears.
The call from the Contractor threw me into the reality of myself and the weight of my secrets bore down on me like an unbearable burden.
“I have been expecting your call for weeks. You owe me but yet you refused to call me. I am not good at this suspense,” I said as I waited for the husky voice at the other end of the line.
“Everything has to be certain and every kill had to be confirmed. You know the drill” said the contractor.
“I see,” I said.
The voice at the other end of the line was cold and menacing, betraying no hint of sympathy. "Cassie, you've been quite busy, and you have eliminated our top assassins. You've certainly made a mess of things," the Contractor said.
I clenched my fists, my frustration threatening to boil over, but I couldn't afford to reveal my true emotions. The Contractor's wrath was not to be underestimated, and I had a greater responsibility now, a secret I had to protect at all costs.
"I did what I had to do," I replied, my voice carefully neutral. "It's all part of the life we chose, isn't it?" I said.
The Contractor's laughter was devoid of warmth, a sinister sound that sent a shiver down my spine. "It is indeed a game, Cassie, but one with dire consequences for those who fail. Now, have you completed your mission regarding Marvin? Have you obtained those documents I requested?"
I could not answer as my mouth moved and my voice refused to be audible.
The documents the Contractor sought would bring down the entire M&M empire, and I couldn't let any trace of my involvement be discovered. The safety of Marvin and our unborn child depended on it.
"I'm working on it," I replied cautiously, my words chosen with care. "It's not as simple as I thought, but I'll get it done."
The Contractor's voice turned even colder, a deadly edge creeping into their words. "Cassie, you have one month. You have played for the past three months. Now you have got one month to eliminate Marvin and retrieve those documents. If you fail, you know the consequences."
The threat weighed on me, heavily, and I fought to keep my composure. I had to protect Marvin, no matter the cost. "I understand," I said, my voice steady, though my mind raced to find a way out of this dangerous situation.
The Contractor's parting words sent a chill through my soul. "Remember, Cassie, you are now our number one assassin. The top position comes with great responsibility and even greater risks." The Contractor reminded me.
As the call ended, I couldn't escape the gnawing sense of dread that had settled over me. My life had become a complex tapestry of intrigue, deceit, and danger, and I had to find a way to secure a future for Marvin and our child, even if it meant making choices that would haunt me forever.
I called Larry. I needed him to get the new contract and our money. The contractor had paid the balance of what was due me and my promotion to number one.
Larry inquired about what had transpired between me and the Contractor but I told him we would not do that over the phone. There was a sign of relief that I felt. There was also a sense of responsibility that came over me too, my responsibility to protect my unborn child and its father.
Now that I have eliminated most threats and made a treaty with the Martinez Gang, I have a lot of things under my control, even the Contractor would not dare me.
I was determined to protect Marvin at all costs, and every moment I spent with him became even more precious. I got home and sat in the living room of the mansion. For some reason, I did not feel like going to my room.
.
Marvin came back from the office and met me in the living room. As we sat together in the soft glow of the room, he dropped the news that left me utterly dissatisfied.
"Cassie, there's something I need to tell you. It's about Miss June," he said.
“Marvin, please go ahead. I am not a stranger, remember I got you the contract,” I said.
"We've decided to go ahead with the wedding," he said with a mixture of excitement and apprehension. "But there's one condition."
I leaned in, my curiosity piqued. "What is it, Marvin?"
He looked directly into my eyes, his gaze unwavering. "I want you to be there, Cassie. You, the lawyer, June, and me. A secret wedding, just the four of us."
The request caught me off guard, and I struggled to maintain my composure. It was an unexpected twist in our complicated relationship, one that threatened to unravel the walls I had built to protect Marvin and our unborn child. But I couldn't refuse him; he meant too much to me, and my heart ached at the thought of him with another woman.
"Of course, Marvin, I do not want someone else to take my glory or suspect anything between us" I replied with a forced smile. "I'll be there."
He nodded in appreciation, and I knew that this secret wedding was a double-edged sword, a bitter reminder of the choices we had to make to keep our loved ones safe.
The wedding would take out Uncle Jonah from the equation, but not the hired assassins. The good thing is that the best of them I knew had been killed by me.
My life had become a tangled web of secrets and danger, and I couldn't escape the looming threat of the Contractor. The call had made it clear: I was now the number one assassin, a position that came with immense responsibility and terrifying risks. He asked that I fulfill my part and eliminate Marvin.
A new contract had been handed down too, one that sent a chill down my spine. It was a mission to rescue a wealthy man's child, a task that seemed straightforward, but I couldn't shake the feeling that it was another layer of the intricate web that was closing in on me.
The Contractor's reminders echoed in my mind like a sinister refrain. If I failed to eliminate Marvin and secure the documents, I would meet a gruesome end.
The stakes had never been higher, and I had to tread carefully, protect my secrets, and find a way to safeguard the man I loved from the danger that threatened to consume us all.
