CHAPTER 84 : FACE TO FACE

Larry left me in the hospital to get things in place. He had already contacted the Martinez Gang. It was good business for them. Since cutting ties with the contractor, their finances have more than tripled as they have no longer had to pay fees and receive funds from the top. It was a very good deal and with the security I provided them, it would be difficult to take them back to the Contractor. For every job I got, it was a sixty/forty share and it made each party smile to the bank with enough funds.

Doctor Jake came for his usual check. He was happy that I was getting the rest I needed. If only he knew what was going on in my mind or what I might have to tell him to do if he extended my days in the Hospital.

I was not comfortable staying in the hospital. I was exposed with Larry gone and I was still feeling a little weak. If the Contractor can get to the Senate President and Senator Alby, he can get to me too. I thought about it for some time. I should leave the hospital to avoid harm to anyone.

"Wow! You have such an amazing body!" Doctor Jake said. I was startled for a minute. Is the Doctor crushing on me?

"What do you mean by that, Doctor?" I asked, indicating that I did not like what I had just heard.

"I am so sorry, that is not what I implied. I mean your body heals fast. You and the baby seemed stressed when you were brought here but now you look amazing, you have recovered well," Doctor Jake said.

"That's good news, right" I asked, hoping that I could leave the next day.

"Yes it is a good thing, your baby is safe," he said.

"So can I leave soon?" I asked.

"If soon, is two days from now, yes you can leave soon," the doctor said, smiling.

"Doctor, I need to leave today or tomorrow at most. Can you make that happen please?" I asked,

"Cassie, you need rest. I mean a lot of it. Yes, you are recovering but you need rest now because of the child in you," the doctor said.

"Doctor, you don't understand, if I don't leave here earlier than that, you may not have a hospital and I may not have a child.

"Cassie, what you are asking me to do is too risky, you truly need rest," he said.

"Is there something we could do that would favor both of us? I do not want anything to happen to anyone please," I said.

"I know you, Cassie, I understand what you do, but whether you leave here or not, you need that rest," Doctor Jake said. And he was so adamant.

I was getting irritated by the doctor. He was a good man trying to do his job, but I'm my world, good men don't last, and if I knew the Contractor he would be here the moment he got a hint that I was in the hospital.

"Doctor, what do you mean by you know me? I want to leave here please"I said.

"Cassie, you are the Chief Security at M & M Industries. I treated you the first time you were attacked. You came here with a gunshot wound or have you forgotten?" Doctor Jake asked me.

"Doc trust me let me go. Please give me something that will keep me strong for a few days please." I pleaded.

"Okay, have these pills, take both twice a day, but rest is the best remedy for your situation," the doctor said.

I changed my clothes and left the hospital.

I went immediately to the hotel. Larry was still there but he had given instructions and was ready to brief me. He was not surprised when he saw me.

"I knew you would show up. You cannot stay out of action. No! That's not you. You know I won't ask you what you are doing here. I just hope you are okay and can function optimally," Larry said.

"I am fine Larry, bring me up to speed," I said.

Larry told me he had informed his men to look for Senator Alby and that they should keep it very discreet. He confirmed that he had spoken to the Senate President and tried to calm him. He also sent some security personnel to the Senate President to beef up his security and they were on a first-hand basis.

"Wow! I should have stayed in the hospital" I said. Larry did more than I expected and I loved it. He is improving by the day.

"Okay, what's that smile for?" He asked.

"I am very impressed. You said you sent your men?" I said, asking for an explanation of what I heard.

"Hmm, it's like you have forgotten that I am a mafia lord with my own territory and men. You know I trained them first before anyone else," Larry said, feeling very proud.

We both laughed. Truly, we have struggled and worked so hard to build where we are and we both know that with just one slip everything would come crashing down on us.

"Did Marvin call again?" I asked.

"I wouldn't know, you are on your phone now," Larry said.

I took my phone and dialed his number. While it was ringing, I turned to Larry.

"I want you to send Barry to Marvin. He would need an upgrade in his security structure," I said.

"Barry is my best and he is already on the field in the missing Senator's case? Do you want me to call him off?" Larry said.

"Larry, you are the best, not Barry. So call him off and take his place while I take your place," I said as Marvin's phone kept ringing.

"That could work," Larry said.

"Marvin, how are you doing?" I asked as Marvin received the call from his end.

"Cassie, where are you? I have been calling and could not get through to you. Larry said you needed rest, please what is happening?" Marvin said, trying to get some information.

"Marvin, I have sent someone to you. His name is Barry, he will help you with security. The Contractor is coming all out,"I said to Marvin, who was already concerned that he had not reached me earlier.

"Okay, I will be expecting him. Please stay safe and say hello to Larry for me. I need you guys back okay," Marvin said.

Larry took his things and wanted to leave. He went to the fridge brought out five bottles of water and dropped them on the table. He also brought some chocolates.

"What are you doing Larry?" I asked.

"Preparing you for your task. I am to take Barry's place while you take my place, so please take my place. I was resting before you came," Larry said, smiling as he dropped some canned food on the table too.

"So you were resting while I was here, right?" I asked, laughing. I knew Larry was not going to answer with a reply. He just laughed and went out of the room.

Larry and the men looked for Senator Alby throughout the day. The next day, the police had instructed the Senate President and Alby's family to pay the ransom. They were to move in the night.

I informed Larry and he placed a man on them. I told Senator Thomas not to pay the ransom but he told me that the police were all over him. I told Larry that when we were done with this we needed to get some police officers on our payroll.

Two hundred million dollars was the ransom money. Where do these people see this type of money? I told Larry to seize the money if they paid it.

Larry called in the evening that they had located the hideout of the kidnappers. I told him that I was not engaged and that I would be on my way. He asked if that was okay and I told him I was in perfect condition.

I took my pills, took some more iodized water, gathered my weapons, and stepped out.

I got to the place. It was another hideout in the outskirts of the town. The kidnappers were well organised and I instructed the men how we would set out the operation.

"Okay, guys, today I do not want any casualties. If we do a neat job, no one will notice. Let's tell these guys they messed with the wrong guys." I said.

I went with Larry by my side. He was doing everything. I hardly shot a shot in the operation. He was shooting with one hand and shielding with the other. The other two men with us got the point. The three of them were procreating me while fighting the enemy.

We got the senator out in no time. I went upstairs and Larry followed me when he noticed I had left the men. I shot one of the men trying to run away while protecting someone.

I got into the room made of glass. On the other side was the man who was with the other man I just killed.

"Cassie! We finally meet," he said in a husky voice.

"If you claim you know me, take off your hat and your nose shield so that I can see you," I said.

" You failed your contract and I am coming for you. You are dead, Cassie," he said.

I did not need anyone to tell me who he was. The contractor was behind the glass wall in flesh and blood. I took my silencer and pulled the trigger, aiming at his head, but the wall was bulletproof.

"As you can see, you are my next contract," I said.

" You and everything you are will be destroyed," he said.

I heard my name from a distance. It was Larry running upstairs to meet me. In the blink of an eye, the Contractor had vanished.

Cassie, Cassie, hold on! We have got the Senator," Larry said.

"Larry, it was the Contractor. Hurry, let's leave. This place could be rigged with a bomb. Get the men out of here now!" I said.
