It was another day in the office and I sat with Marvin. He wanted things with Miss June to end since he now has his victory, the company and his inheritance are not up for grabs anymore.
I told him he has two years before the contract expires or that he could ask June that they end things mutually. Which would be difficult considering the fact that June felt hurt by his recent behavior.
June was going to punish him though she loved him and that could be another issue. If June had taken up this contract with the hope that Marvin would grow to love her then Marvin would have got a bigger problem.
We both agreed that there was deception all around Marvin, and we laughed at it. I told him that even his own father had almost deceived him.
Marvin was happy that he had Uncle Jonah off his back and would not be thinking about that for a long time. I was happy too, but I did not think Uncle Jonah would easily back off.
Larry came by the office and Marvin allowed him in. Marvin was happy to see Larry. He had grown to love Larry because of his vast knowledge of so many things.
"I came to let you two know my findings. I am sure you may have heard a few of them before, but this is what I know now," Larry said.
"Please tell us, no matter what it is, we should move forward. We are making progress and I think with you, we would make more," Marvin said.
"I know you know that Uncle Jonah was responsible for kidnapping Shantel and her Father the first time, but it was the Contractor that tried to kill them after that," Larry said.
"Please go on," I said.
"Officer Page and his boss are working for the Contractor, and we may need to be careful with the New York Police department. The Contractor has it all under his influence"
"That son of a bitch," Marvin shouted. He was now very angry.
"You have to calm down Marvin, Larry has not finished yet, Continue Larry," I said.
"It was Lucas who ordered all three of the assassination attempts on you. I do not know why. All I can tell you is that this is verified information. He ordered those hits," Larry said.
Marvin looked at me and was surprised. Why would Lucas want to kill him? It does not make sense. Even with him gone, no one would inherit anything. So why make that move?
"Larry, you need to find out why we cannot operate in the dark here," I said.
"Okay, I hear you, but you also need to know that the Contractor has lost his hold on the Senate as he is no longer seen as an influence. I suggest you meet with Senator Thomas and Senator Alby immediately," Larry said.
"No Larry, I have got a better plan, but I will need some dirt on Officer Page. Can you make that happen?" I asked Larry.
"Just give the command and I got you," Larry said.
"Okay, Marvin, it's time we introduced you to the senators. It is time to take over the country," I said as I turned towards Marvin.
"One last thing, Marvin, your boy Ken works for Lucas and that's how all information about you is gotten by Uncle Jonah and Lucas.* Larry said.
You could see in Marvin's face that he was very furious. I thought this was something long coming. I had suspected Ken on so many occasions but Marvin, in a bid to keep his friend, wanted all the findings to be false. Unfortunately for him, Larry's information is as correct as the spelling of correct.
Marvin sat down and blew air multiple times. He was not surprised. I guess he was just pained that there was confirmation that his friend had betrayed him.
"Can you put a check on June?" Marvin asked.
" I have done that, Marvin, she is clean," I said.
"I don't care, I want another check on her," Marvin said.
"Marvin, you need to calm down. June is clean. I know Ken is a hard hit, but that does not mean everyone around you is a suspect," I said.
We were still absorbing all that Larry had told us when we were informed that Uncle Jonah was almost in the office. Marvin was not sure of what to do.
"Cassie, please tell me you have your weapons on you," Marvin asked.
"I am always loaded and equipped. Larry, please wait behind too, and get ready," I said.
"Marvin, are you sure I should stay?" Larry asked Marvin despite I told him to stay.
"I think Cassie is right, I think you should stay. I don't trust this man one bit," Marvin said.
I took my place behind Marvin as he sat down. Larry had asked the guards to take formation while he was at the door.
Uncle Jonah and Lucas came in with a guard. Larry told the guards to wait outside at the secretary's office. While he allowed only Uncle Jonah and his son, Lucas. They were not aware of all the things that Larry had told us.
"I built this company with your Dad. It is only fair that you give me my share of the company", Uncle Jonah said.
"I did not see that in the will of my father, and you have carried out all your plans and lost. I think you should quit trying," Marvin said.
Uncle Jonah was quiet for some minutes. In those minutes of quietness, I could see a man whose greed ate him up. His son Lucas was already fuming inside. I clinched my gun pouch. Larry looked at me and shook his head. I eyed him with blinks to get him ready to take out the guards outside the office.
"You can not be like your dad who tried to take out everyone in his way. I did not come here for violence. I am a peaceful man," Uncle Jonah said.
Yet you kidnapped Shantel and Mr Ross," Marvin said.
"We had a deal, and they failed to keep their part of the deal. You would do the same in my position. You have done worse with this lady assassin you have here," Uncle Jonah said, pointing to me." Uncle Jonah said.
" You used them to get to me. You used Shantel to make me not get my inheritance. You could have come to me if you wanted this if you wanted part of anything, but no, you wanted all for yourself," Marvin said.
It is what it is. I built the company with your father, and he cheated me out of my share and wants me to leave my son empty-handed while you have it all to yourself," Uncle Jonah said.
"No Uncle! You keep saying this all the time. But it was you who gambled all your shares in the stock trade. You gambled with your wife too and that got her killed. You cannot come here to say this when it was my dad that still brought you back to the company after all that. I guess he loved his brother so much that he refused to acknowledge that his brother had become a vile person," Marvin said.
"You do not want to go to war with me, you will not win, you are just a kid. Uncle Jonah said.
"I think it is time you took your leave. I can no longer tolerate you." Marvin said.
"Marvin, you are just a coward. That you brought my late mother into this conversation to ridicule my father," Lucas said.
"Lucas, if I were you I would shut up. You think I do not know how many times you tried to assassinate me, you of all people, I gave you several opportunities and contracts you ungrateful spoiled brat," Marvin said, reacting to Lucas's initial claim.
"We are all Simpsons and this must not be. Lucas, did you try to kill your cousin?" Uncle Jonah asked his son.
"You are weak, Dad, and that is why this fool beat you to the game. I wish Mum had been here," Lucas said.
*No Lucas, it was your mom who ordered the hit that killed my brother, Marvin Senior, and when we could not pay the balance, the Contractor had her killed. What have you done?" Uncle Jonah said.
Lucas was terrified. If he ordered the hit on Marvin, he would be in trouble now that his family is without funds.
"Uncle, please you should both leave my office and I do not want you anywhere near any of my properties. Tomorrow I will be taking a restraining order against both of you," Marvin said.
"It's okay son. I will take my leave but be careful because your life is still in danger as far as this lady is here. She works for the Contractor," Uncle Jonah said.
" I know that, Uncle Jonah," Marvin said.
"Then you must know that she was the one who killed your Dad. My wife specifically chose her," Uncle Jonah said as he rose up, looked at me, shook his head, and left. Lucas followed him immediately.
CHAPTER 88: NOT AGAIN
After Uncle Jonah and his son, Lucas, had left the office. It was quiet for the three of us. I was sure that neither Larry nor Marvim was quite sure what to say. Larry knew about the contract to kill Marvin’s father but no one knew that the order to kill came from one of the Simpsons. It was from Lucas.
“Marvin, are you okay,” I said, attempting to break the silence that had now engulfed our space and made us strangers to one another.
I knew this was what Incle Jonah wanted to cause this so that Marvin could be exposed. It was simple to see, only if Marvin could let go of his emotions and see what his Uncle was trying to do to us. I should have told him earlier but there were so many things to tell, and I do not think that he would have taken it lightly. My love for him keeps exposing me and this is where I needed to be careful. I need Marvin and his money in order to control the Martinez Gang.
“Marvin, please I would beg that you should be wise about any decision you want to make. This is what Uncle Jonah wanted. That was the purpose of the meeting. It was to cause rancor and division in your camp. You need to think this through. I would advise that you should not even make any decision at all. I know this is hurting, but please let it go. We have come a long way to let anything destroy what we have built. ” Larry said, trying to make him understand that things were still in our favor and there was no need for rash and emotional decisions.
“Do I have a choice, but Cassie, you should have told me, I love you and have also made some sacrifices to get here. I know this is your past. I know it is a tricky situation, and I am not sure how I am supposed to take it in if you had told me, but still, I would have loved to have heard it first from you and not been surprised by Uncle Jonah and his spoiled son, Lus. What else are you hiding from me? Is there anything I should be aware of? Are there any more surprises?” Marvin said in anger. I could see that he was blistering red from anger.
“Marvin, you know I am an assassin, your security chief, and your bodyguard. Sometimes, to protect you, I have to be silent about certain things and certain information. I did not know how to tell you this, it was too early in our relationship, and you had just been attacked and some had tried to kill you. I needed to protect you and your feelings because, above all, to keep our love too,” I said.
“How do you explain the killing of my dad as proof of our love,” Marvin said.
“Please do not act naive. You knew before now that I had never met you and I never knew you. I was asked to kill your father, and I was only doing my job,” I said.
“But you were also contracted to kill me, but here you are protecting me,” Marvin said.
“I fell in love with you, that’s why. You would have been dead if not for that incident. Love happened to me and I have never blamed it.” I said.
“I just don’t want any more surprises,” Marvin said.
“You cannot escape them, they will keep coming,’ I said.
I thought to myself during the conversation. So it was Lucas who made the call to get Marvin killed, so then he must have had a deal with the contractor to get the documents. Oh my goodness Marvin was still in danger. If they get the original copy of the documents, then they could hurt him.
“Marvin, do you remember the documents you retrieved from your chambers, the one about your dad, his dealings and the company?” I asked.
“Yes, what about it? It is with my Dad,” Marvin said.
“The contractor and Lucas were after the documents and that means you are still in danger. Can you confirm that you have the documents?” I asked.
“I will confirm from my father,” Marvin said.
“I thought you said, Cassie killed your father right now,” Larry, who had been quiet all along, cuts in.
“Larry, his father is still alive. It is a story for another day. But right now we need to concentrate on this particular issue about the documents,” I said.
“So what does the document say?” Larry asked.
“That document could replace Marvin as the CEO and implicate his Dad if they lay their hands on it,” I said.
Larry knew I had the documents because he had seen me keep them on so many occasions. He had asked me to give it to the contractor, but now he knows why I held on to it. Lucas must have cut a deal with the Contractor and that was why he looked confident that he and his father still had the upper hand. What he did not know was that I had reduced the contractor’s influence to almost nothing.
“I think Lucas has cut a deal with the Contractor. Marvin, can you delay whatever payment or financial benefits they are supposed to get on their removal from the board,” I said.
“Why should I?” Marvin asked.
“Because they are going to use it to pay the Contractor his balance so that he will continue to come after you but if you do not, the Contractor will go after them or the initiator,” Larry said.
“I think we should go after Lucas. We have been on the defensive for a long time,” Marvin said.
“I do not think that is a wise plan. If you do what I said, we will not have a problem, and Lucas will be taken care of by the Contractor,” I said.
