CHAPTER 99: THE DOCUMENTS

The evening air hung heavy with tension as Cassie I out Larry in a secluded corner of the Martinez Gang base. The dim glow of a single overhead light cast elongated shadows, accentuating the gravity of the conversation that was about to unfold.

"Cassie, what's eating at you?" Larry inquired, his eyes narrowing as he observed the turmoil in Cassie's expression.

Taking a deep breath, Cassie began to unravel the unsettling revelation that had been gnawing at her since the incident with Ken. "Larry, I think June might be involved in all of this."

Larry's brows furrowed in confusion. "June? Marvin's contracted wife? What are you talking about?" He asked with so much concern as to what I was about to reveal.

I recounted the events surrounding the attack, emphasizing the peculiar timing of June's sudden appearance and the subsequent assault orchestrated by masked assailants. Larry listened intently, his mind processing the information.

"So, you think June had a hand in it?" Larry questioned, his tone reflective of the disbelief that lingered in the air.

I nodded solemnly. "It's the only explanation that makes sense. She knew about the meeting with Ken, and those attackers were too well-coordinated for it to be a random occurrence."

Larry leaned back, rubbing his temples as if attempting to dispel the mounting confusion. "This is a lot to take in, Cassie. Are you sure about this?"

"I know what I saw, Larry. And I can't shake the feeling that June is not as innocent as she appears," I asserted, Myr eyes reflecting the resolve that fueled her pursuit of the truth. “How did she know about Ken’s death? If she was not the one that sent those assassins. Who gave her the information that she confidently went to Marvin,” I said.

Larry sighed, acknowledging the severity of the situation. "Alright, Cassie. I'll look into this discreetly. We need to tread carefully. If June is involved, we can't afford any missteps."

Thank you Larry,'' I replied him as he nodded his head in acknowledemnet.. “I know I can count on you,” I said as I rushed home to Marvin who had been calling me all through my meeting with Larry.

I got home in time to see Marvin paving up and down, he had juct come back from a meeting with his father and did not give me any attention when I entered the room. Marvin sifted through documents in a part of his room hidden from prying eyes. The revelation of compromised security had triggered a sense of urgency, propelling him into a relentless search for answers.

As the files scattered before him, Marvin's mind raced with the weight of impending revelations. The sound of shuffling papers echoed through the room as he meticulously combed through financial records and sensitive documents.

The interplay of shadows painted a picture of uncertainty on Marvin's face. The security breaches, the attack on me, and now the revelation of potential betrayal. It looked like they all converged in a complex web that threatened to ensnare him.

With each passing moment, Marvin's determination intensified. The quest for the truth became not only a matter of corporate security but a personal journey to safeguard those he held dear.

I watched him without intervening. I knew what he was looking for as what he had in his hands were the forged documents I had exchanged for the originals earlier. I did not know whether it was the right time to tell i had the documents.

“What is it my love?” I decided to ask. “Can you calm down and let me know what you are looking for,” I said.

“My father said the documents I gave him were fake, I just hope that Ken did not get his hands on it. Only him shared the keys to the chambers with me,” Marvin said.

At the mentionof Ken I knew I had an alibi. I thought it was best I put it all on Ken and told him I retrieved the documents from Ken before he could hand it over to the Contractor.

“I think I can help you but you must explain what you are looking for and it looks like,” I said.

“Sorry Cassie no matter how I explain these things you will not get and you may never have seen it,” Marvin said.

“Okay, I agree with you but I would love to know what it is?” I asked aain feigning ignorance.

“Cassie, its a document that contains everything about my family. It contains all our secrets and if the Contractor gets a hold on it we are doomed,” Marvin said.

“Then you better be praying it is the one I took from Ken if niot we are fucked,” I said.
