CHAPTER 103: HUSH HUSH

"Cassie!" Larry's voice cut through the chaos as he rushed to my side. The gravity of the situation sank in as he saw the blood gushing from my wound. I thought it was my gun hand he had shot, but looking at it one more time through the on and off of my consciousness I could see that he shot me at my upper chest. I just hoped and wished that he had missed my arteries. Blood was gushing down from my chest and my belly.

"Come on Cassie, don't let go, apply pressure on it," it was Larry's voice I was now hearing from a distance, though he was about to carry me in his arms.

In a flurry of urgency, Larry scooped up me in his arms, his eyes flickering between concern and a steely resolve. Without hesitation, he carried me out of the warehouse, the weight of the consequences settling on his shoulders.

I did not know whether I had killed Rose's husband too as I was in and out of consciousness by the time we got to the hospital and everything changed. Doctor Jake seemed frightened for the first time.

Doctor Jake's hospital became a haven, its sterile walls offering a refuge from the chaos that had unfolded. My life hung in the balance as Doctor Jake and his skilled team worked tirelessly to mend the wounds inflicted by the bullet.

As I teetered on the edge of consciousness, the echoes of the confrontation with Rose lingered. Betrayal had pierced the bonds of trust, and the consequences of that fateful encounter would ripple through the intricate tapestry of my world. The shadows of deception had claimed another victim, leaving in their wake a fractured alliance and the indelible scars of a truth too bitter to bear.

The sterile scent of the hospital surrounded me as consciousness gradually returned. The dull ache in my stomach and upper chest throbbed in sync with the rhythmic beeping of the nearby monitor. Doctor Jake, the seasoned figure in the realm of mending broken bodies, hovered nearby, scrutinizing the vital signs that danced across the screen.

My eyes flickered open, adjusting to the harsh lighting of the hospital room. Pain coursed through me, a stark reminder of the recent turmoil. My hand instinctively went to my stomach, a protective gesture toward the precious lives I had within those walls.

"Easy, Cassie. You've been through a lot," Doctor Jake's voice carried a soothing reassurance. "You're in the hospital, and we're doing everything we can."

The urgency in my eyes met Doctor Jake's, it was a silent plea that etched in my gaze. "Doctor Jake, my babies. Please, tell me they're okay."

The doctor's expression softened as he placed a comforting hand on Cassie's arm. "We're monitoring them closely. It's a delicate situation, but we're doing our best to ensure their well-being."

Fear gripped my heart as I envisioned the potential harm that could befall the tiny lives growing within me. The bond between a mother and her unborn children transcended the physical pain I endured. I could no longer see Larry, but I was certain he would not want to leave the hospital until he heard from me.

"Please, Doctor Jake, you have to save them. I'll do anything," My voice trembled with a mixture of desperation and determination.

Doctor Jake nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "I'll do everything in my power, Cassie. You've got to rest now. Your body needs time to heal."

As I lay in the sterile confines of the hospital bed, a surge of panic enveloped me. What if I lose the babies? At that point, I knew I needed Marvin, not just for my own solace, but for the assurance that our unborn children would be protected.

"Doctor Jake, please, help me call Marvin. He needs to know," I implored, my eyes searching the doctor's face for a glimmer of hope.

Doctor Jake, recognizing the importance of my request, nodded. "I'll make the call, Cassie. You focus on recovering. We'll keep a close eye on both you and the babies."

In the hushed ambiance of the hospital room, my thoughts raced. My connection with Marvin had weathered storms before, but this was a battle that transcended our own lives. The fate of our unborn children hung in the balance, and the path ahead was shrouded in uncertainty. As the call to Marvin echoed through the sterile corridors, I clung to the hope that love would triumph over adversity, and my new family would emerge stronger from the crucible of challenges we faced.

Marvin rushed into the the room as there were preparing me for the theater, I think i saw there or four people holding him and asking him to calm down. IO could not speak but could only look at them feebly from the corner of my eyes. I was full of sympathy for Marvin as I watched him full with teary eyes trying to comprehend what had happened.

I saw Doctor Jakes trying to explain to Marvin the extent at which my surgery would take place. I waved my hand weakly to them and Marvin moved closer towards me by the bed side.

"Tell Larry to secure the hospital. whether I make it or not, stay away from the Martinez Gang. Larry will guide you," I said as I notice Larry stepping in.

"Cassie, you need not worry. Everybody and everywhere is secured till you come out. We are waiting for you. Everything is going to be all right. You are a fighter, it is just another fight so get open with it while we wait for you," Larry said.

I was glad to have him by my side. I closed my eyes and later open them only for me to see them rushing, Everyone was running helter skelter and in my feeble state I could not ask anyone. One of the nurses was pushing my bed on the trolley to the theater. I tried talking to her, but no words came out of my mouth.

I scanned around for Marvin. I did not see him, so I scanned around for Larry. I did not see any of them as I blacked out again for the umpteenth time. This time, my babies and I were playing side by side in the boat waiting for Marvin to rock the boat and take us home.
