I looked at the text Larry sent to me. Sancho had ordered that I join the meeting on a video call online in case there were things I would want to personally attend from the table members during the meeting. I knew he was just looking for a way to please the table, but I did not care. He owes me, yet he is acting like I do not need a favor from him.
Marvin came to the room and saw me trying to join the meeting as I set up my laptop for it. "I thought the doctor warned you about working," he said.
"Well, he is not here and these people are still plotting to take my spot," I replied.
As I joined the online meeting, Sancho, the head of the Martinez Gang, began updating the gang members on the recent events, including the attack on me and the necessity for me to take time to recover. The virtual gathering, a testament to the gang's adaptability, brought together its members to discuss the way forward during my absence.
Sancho's voice resonated through the online platform, conveying a sense of authority and camaraderie. "Alright, everyone, as you know, Cassie needs time to recover from the recent attack. She's a tough one, but even the strongest need a moment to heal. During her absence, we'll need someone to step into her shoes and lead the gang effectively,"
"So, because she is attending to her wounds, we will have to stop our production and operations because the head of operations wanted a vacation," said Alex.
"If you had let me finish you would have heard me when I said that we needed someone to fill her position while she took care of herself. Larry will stand in for her.
Larry, understanding the responsibilities that came with the interim leadership, stepped forward. "I'll do my best to fill Cassie's shoes for the time being. We've faced challenges before, and we'll continue to stand strong as a united gang."
Sancho nodded approvingly, acknowledging Larry's willingness to step up. "Larry, you've got our trust. Keep things in order, and we'll have Cassie back with us in no time. The Martinez Gang remains a formidable force, no matter the circumstances."
I was observing the meeting from my temporary residence. I felt a mix of gratitude and responsibility. The gang, a tightly-knit family, understood the need for flexibility during challenging times. As Larry assumed the temporary leadership of my position, I couldn't help but appreciate the solidarity and resilience that defined the Martinez Gang.
The virtual gathering continued, discussing ongoing operations, security measures, and future plans. Cassie, though physically distant, remained connected to the gang's dynamics, contributing her insights when needed and ensuring a smooth transition during her recovery.
The Martinez Gang, with its decentralized yet interconnected structure, showcased its ability to adapt and thrive even in the face of adversity. As the meeting progressed, Cassie envisioned the day she would return to lead her gang once more, strengthened by the support and unity that defined the Martinez family.
As the Martinez Gang gathered at the Table, the virtual meeting pulsating through the digital realm, an unsettling suggestion emerged. One of the members, perhaps influenced by concerns about my current state of vulnerability, proposed a drastic measure and that was that my place at the Table and my position within the gang be reassigned to another member. It was Alex.
"Why should we keep a liability when we can do away with her," said Alex,
"She is not weak, she was attacked, and she is in need of care and love," Master Sancho said.
She is of no use to us if she cannot produce results and that is what our by-law of the constitution says. "I said, looking at Sancho.
Everyone is just seeking a position that would favor them, and they forget that I am the only one at the table who is an assassin and can take out any of them any time I want.
The suggestion hung in the virtual air, a discordant note in the usually harmonious proceedings of the Martinez Gang. Cassie, though aware of her temporary physical limitations, felt a surge of defiance against the notion that weakness equated to a relinquishment of power.
We cannot be expelling anyone we think is weak due to an accident or an attack. That would be a cruel thing to do because Larry had warned me that they were coming for me and I had prepared. My seat will not be declared vacant today.
Sancho, the head of the gang, responded with measured authority. "I understand that these are unprecedented times, and we're facing challenges. However, let's not forget the essence of our gang. It was built on loyalty, resilience, and standing by each other when the going gets tough. Cassie has steered us through countless storms, and now, when she needs our support, we discuss stripping her of her place and her position. That would be so cruel of us. It is not the type of rule we would want to follow. If not, we would not have a table today." Sancho said.
Larry, now leading in my absence, added his perspective. "We've always been a family, and families don't abandon their own. Cassie might be recovering, but her spirit and leadership are intact. We should stand by her, not replace her."
I looked at Larry from the laptop and, despite my physical absence, I felt a surge of gratitude for the vocal support from Sancho and Larry. The Martinez Gang, with its strong sense of loyalty, stood against the divisive suggestion. The Table members were a symbol of unity and also had become a platform for solidarity.
Sancho addressed the concerned member directly. "We'll not be making any hasty decisions. Cassie is still our leader, and our head of operations, and until she says otherwise, her position at the table remains secure. We've weathered storms together, and this won't be an exception."
The suggestion, momentarily looming, dissipated in the face of the gang's unwavering loyalty. As the meeting continued, the Martinez Gang affirmed its commitment to me, recognizing that strength transcended physical prowess and that true power emanated from the bonds of loyalty and resilience that held us together.
I was glad that I was part of the meeting as it gave me the opportunity to see those who opposed me and wanted my space and position declared vacant. I put down the two p[people who opposed me. They were lucky that they did not need my seat vacant or else I would have started taking out table members one after the other..
