Damien was truly angry.

I had felt his anger before, cold and distant, but this was different. This time it pressed down on me like a physical weight, stealing the air from my lungs as his kiss turned punishing and his accusation burned against my skin.

The moment he loosened his grip, I shoved him away with all the strength I had left and fled into my bedroom, slamming the door so hard the entire frame shuddered.
