The nurse moves quickly, her movements practiced and efficient, as she re-inserts the IV needle into my arm. The brief sting makes me flinch despite myself, but I don’t cry out. I just inhale sharply, teeth clenched, as the clear liquid begins dripping again—slow, steady, relentless.
