Chapter 3

Lily’s POV

Dresses in simple white shirt and blue slacks, the top buttons of the shirt undone and the ends not tucked in, he stood at above 6ft, his muscular form which I could glimpse from the slightly transparent material of the shirt, relaxed as he he leaned his back on the cold metal.

He seemed to have observed my lack of movement hence his attention shifted from his sneakers clad feet upwards, till my black eyes met the sharp blue of his. He had thick brown shoulder length hair, the sides falling over his face due to his posture.

“Aren’t you getting in?” He asked, his voice deep and rough. The kind to trap you and scare you at the same time.

“Sorry,” I apologized as he pressed a button once the doors were about to shut.

“No problem.” he smiled and my heart skipped a beat at how good looking he was.

I got in and the doors slid shut, putting as much distance between us as possible. I felt compelled to attach my body to his which was why I did the exact opposite. The numbers began to decline as the elevator descended.

“Sorry I forgot to ask,” he spoke all of a sudden and I angled my head in his path. “Which floor?”

“The first floor,” I revealed with a small smile, the hairs on my skin standing as we gazed into each other’s eyes but not for the wrong reasons.

“Same as me,” he nodded and I hummed, at a loss for anything to say while I faced the metal.

I felt his presence behind me, my heartbeat unsteady as I counted my breaths to prevent my mind from spiraling. Just when I was starting to relax, his voice penetrated the silence with another question. “You seem new. Here for an interview?”

“Ummm, no,” I answered, carefully picking out my words. There was something about him that made me stand straighter, as I unconsciously felt the need to impress him.

I was still yet to discover the reason in that moment but chose to carry on with the conversation for fear of coming off rude. “I was invited for a meeting with the directors.”

“Oh,” he let out, a strange look settling in his blue eyed gaze. If I could decipher it, it was somewhere between shock and admiration. “That's impressive. Not everyone is invited to meet with them.”

“Isn’t that how it is everywhere?” I asked lightly, trying to calm the unstable air I sensed between us. “I’m a data analyst.”

“Hard to see a female one, that alone indicates you must be exceptional at your job,” he spoke, tone faint as if he was talking to himself.

“I definitely do,” I beamed, not able to hide the pride from my voice. “What about you?”

“What about me?” He repeated my question, a brow raised for emphasis.

“Are you a visitor here like me, or a staff?” I implored, curiosity getting the better of me as I continued. “Because from the way you are dressed, I’d say the first.”

“What's wrong with my attire?” He tilted his head to the side, lips curling in a smirk as he noticed my wandering eyes to his shirt for the second time since we met, as if trying to see more of him, or what the transparent material could let me see.

“It's just—” I started to say but stopped to think of the right reference. “I guess, simple and odd for a staff of a corporate establishment like this to wear. Take me for example, I’m a visitor but I dressed accordingly.”

“Have you heard of anyone being punished due to a wrong dress code?” He inquired, not blinking for even a second.

“Maybe? Not sure?” My response came out as questions instead of answers.

“See?” He chuckled.

“So you mean you work here?” I implored, narrowing my lids in suspicion and of course disbelief.

“I’m certainly not here for a heist am I?” He questioned in a scoff.

“Which department do you work then?” I interrogated, my curiosity beginning to sound rude even to my ears. “You know what? Don't answer that, it's not my place to pry.”

“I could have answered either way,” he winked. “But I trust you’d find out soon.”

“How do you mean?” I queried just as the elevator dinged and the doors slid open.

“This won't be your last time at Steele Corp I’m certain,” he stated in a way that came of knowledgeable, as if he already knew what my schedule would be like.

“Yeah,” I dragged out the four letter word, as I observed him tuck his hands into the pocket of his slacks.

“Good,” he grinned, blue irises sparkling down at me, the expression on his face too bright for me to ignore as I ended up smiling too. “May we exchange names?”

“Alright,” I agreed, and I stretched out a palm towards him. He did same but had to press a button as the doors tried to close. “I’m Lily.”

“Nice to meet you Lily,” he shook my hand. “I’m Leo.”

“Nice,” I nodded, thinking how weird it was for both our names to start with the same letter.

“I see we both thinking the same thing,” he winked. “Just so you know, I don't think it's a coincidence.”

“Then what, fate?” I asked playfully.

“Destiny maybe,” he grinned, his hand firmly around mine and I couldn't help but feel how large and warm it was.

“Sorry,” I said as he pressed the button again, to prevent the door from shutting.

“I think you need to get out now,” he urged, cocking his head toward the direction of the lobby.

“Aren’t you coming out too?” I frowned in confusion.

“No,” he declined. “I just remembered my car’s parked in the basement parking lot.”

“That's understandable,” I murmured and eyed our hands. He took the initiative and let mine go. “I’ll be going then.”

“Have a safe drive,” he said as I walked out. “See you next time.”

“Thanks,” I grinned, taking slow steps away from him. “You too.”

His last response was a wave as the elevator’s doors closed. Holding my back tightly, I turned around and strode to the exit. I scanned my card once again and walked through.

A small smile played on my lips unconsciously as I left the lobby and was out in the parking lot. I suddenly let out a breath I had no idea I was holding and put a palm where my heart should be. “What’s wrong with me?”

I had no answer for my question as I gazed up at the sky for a moment and pushed some wavy strands of hair away from my face. I knew I appeared weird to anyone watching long before Daisy came to stand beside me.

“You good there Lily?” Her question pierced my thoughts and I faced her with a straight look.

“Do I look okay?” I asked, honestly in need of her opinion.

“You do, but staring at the sky like that makes you look weird,” she mumbled, her lids narrowing into slits as she covered the distance between us to peer at my face. “Still as beautiful as ever though.”

“Thanks,” I laughed as I whirled in the path of my car.

“Do you think that man was Roman Steele?” She asked, provoking me to to come to an abrupt halt.

“Which man?” I queried, my heart skipping a beat as I thought back to Leo
