Chapter three

Caitlin’s life had undergone a complete transformation in the months following the birth of her son. It all began with her decision to leave Middleton behind and move to Allensouth, a place that held a sense of familiarity and hope for her.

This was where she had lived before coming to Middleton for her critical surgery, and it felt like a return to something safer, more stable. In Allensouth, Caitlin had been offered a new beginning, a chance to build her life once again.

Grace, the kind-hearted obstetrician who had taken Caitlin in, proved to be her savior in every sense of the word. Grace was not just any doctor—she was a renowned and wealthy obstetrician, widely respected in Allensouth for her work and contributions.

But it wasn’t just her financial stability or professional fame that made her special; it was her genuine care and empathy toward Caitlin that had made all the difference. Grace’s promise to Caitlin had been fulfilled in ways Caitlin could have never imagined.

She found a beautiful apartment in a quiet, serene estate, with breathtaking views of the city skyline. The apartment was spacious and modern, the kind of home Caitlin had only dreamed of. It was her refuge, a place where she could feel safe with her son, away from the harsh memories of the past.

Grace had also secured Caitlin a job, which was a great relief to her. The assurance of financial security after the baby arrived made Caitlin’s heart swell with gratitude. She could hardly believe how everything had fallen into place. It was more than she could have hoped for. And yet, despite all this, the road ahead was not without its challenges.

Caitlin’s pregnancy, though supported by Grace, was not easy. The first few months were full of physical and emotional turmoil. Caitlin often felt ill, drained by constant sickness and the emotional weight that lingered from her past. The memories of the trauma still haunted her, and she found herself battling waves of sadness and anxiety. Yet, through it all, Grace was a pillar of support.

For reasons Caitlin couldn’t quite understand, Grace had taken an extraordinary liking to her. Perhaps it was because of the strength Caitlin had shown in surviving so much, despite the odds. She had seen Caitlin go through the unimaginable and still stand, even when everything seemed to be falling apart.

Grace admired Caitlin’s resilience, and as their bond grew stronger, she began to treat Caitlin like a daughter. Caitlin was often overwhelmed by Grace’s kindness, and while she was deeply thankful, she felt unworthy of such love and generosity. She had so little to offer in return. Grace, however, reassured her that there was no need to repay her. Caitlin had already done enough by allowing Grace to be a part of her journey.

The days turned into weeks, and as Caitlin’s belly grew larger, so did her sense of anticipation. The birth was approaching, and with it came a mix of excitement and fear. Grace had suggested a natural water birth, believing it would provide Caitlin with a more comfortable experience. She prepared a birthing pool, taking extra care to ensure that everything would go smoothly when the time came.

When the labor started, Caitlin was overwhelmed by pain. The contractions were intense, and she felt as though her body was being torn apart. Grace stayed by her side, comforting her and guiding her through the process.

Caitlin clutched the edge of the pool, pushing with all her strength as she felt her baby begin to emerge. The pain was indescribable, and yet, with each passing moment, she knew she was one step closer to holding her son in her arms. The labor seemed endless, but at long last, after what felt like an eternity, the cries of her baby filled the room. Caitlin, utterly exhausted and in agony, collapsed into unconsciousness.

She awoke moments later, finding herself lying on a bed. Grace had cleaned both her and the baby up, and Caitlin could barely summon the strength to sit up. She felt weak and drained, still shaking from the pain of childbirth. But as Grace gently handed her son into her arms, everything else faded away.

“Look... It's your baby boy. Isn’t he just beautiful?” Grace’s voice was soft, full of pride and tenderness.

Caitlin held the small bundle in her arms, tears welling up in her eyes as she gazed at her son. His tiny face, his little hands, his delicate features—he was perfect. And in that moment, all the pain of the past months, all the fear and sorrow, seemed to melt away. She pressed him to her chest, overwhelmed by a rush of emotions, and wept. The joy of finally meeting her son, of knowing he was safe, filled her heart completely.

Grace, who had been silently watching, couldn’t help but wipe away her own tears. Caitlin’s cries were not of sadness, but of pure joy—tears of relief, of a new beginning. Grace knew that Caitlin had made the right choice by keeping the child, and seeing the bond between mother and child was all the affirmation she needed. She kissed the baby’s cheeks and whispered, “You’re perfect, little one.”

Caitlin continued to nurse her son as Grace helped her, guiding her with tenderness and care. Caitlin was no longer alone—she had her beautiful baby, and she would never have to face life by herself again. She was filled with a profound sense of happiness, a warmth that she had never known before.

The days that followed were filled with joy and learning. Grace provided Caitlin with everything she needed, from baby clothes to toys, ensuring that Sultan—her son—lacked for nothing. Caitlin marveled at how Grace treated her like family, going above and beyond to ensure she was comfortable and well-cared for. Caitlin couldn’t help but feel grateful beyond words. She had come from a life filled with hardship, but now, thanks to Grace, she had everything she had ever dreamed of.

“Thank you so much for everything, ma’am,” Caitlin said softly, her eyes filled with emotion. “You’ve been so kind to me. I don’t know how I can ever repay you.”

Grace smiled warmly, placing a hand on Caitlin’s shoulder. “There’s no need to thank me, dear. I’m happy to help. You’ve been through so much, and you deserve to be happy. You’re like a daughter to me now, and I’ll always be here for you.”

Caitlin beamed at her, a smile full of warmth and gratitude. She wrapped her arms around Grace in a tight hug. In that moment, Caitlin knew that no matter what the future held, she would never be alone again.

As the months passed, Caitlin’s health improved. She gained weight, and her body slowly regained the strength it had lost during pregnancy. She became more radiant, her glow undeniable. People who saw her couldn’t help but stare, admiring her newfound beauty. Her son, Sultan, was growing fast and was the picture of health. Everywhere Caitlin went, people marveled at how adorable he was. He was the star of the neighborhood, and it made Caitlin smile every time someone commented on his charm.

However, when people asked about Sultan’s father, Caitlin’s heart would tighten. She hated discussing the past, especially when it came to the man who had caused her so much pain. Each time someone asked, Caitlin’s face would fall, and they would quickly realize they had overstepped. She preferred to stay at home, where she could focus on her son and the life she was building.

One day, after much thought, Caitlin finally decided on a name for her son. “His name is Sultan,” she told Grace when she visited.

“Sultan?” Grace repeated, her eyes lighting up. “What a beautiful, powerful name! I love it!”

Caitlin smiled, her heart swelling with pride. She had chosen the name because she believed her son would be strong, capable, and destined for greatness. She would ensure that he never knew the pain she had endured. She would give him a life filled with love and luxury, a life she never had.

The years passed quickly, and Caitlin poured all her love into raising Sultan. She made sure he had everything she could possibly provide, from the best clothes to the finest toys. Grace continued to support them both, and together, they created a life that was as close to perfection as Caitlin could ever imagine. Though Caitlin had once been broken, now she was whole—because of her son, and because of the love and support she had found in Grace.
