Near SAN JUAN CHAMULA, MEXICO

The jeep roars down a dim dirt road. The passenger, the mustached man who apparently directed the attack at the restaurant, takes out a cell phone and speaks into it in Spanish. A quarter mile down the road, he pockets the phone and addresses the driver with a gloating question. He repeats it. He repeats it again. The driver's right hand goes inside his jacket.
