NARRATIVE of WARD COURIER

We settled on a Saturday in mid-May for that celebratory dinner. I got picked up at my cottage by an unmarked but official-looking SUV that held Rick Reynard and a driver who looked like what I presume an off-duty trooper would look like. He also looked like a guy nobody would mess with.

By six we were together: Ted Bennett, Jason Jonas, Nicole Walters, Cyrenius Watson, and Evan Davis, plus me and Rick. ...
