Ava’s POV

I stood frozen with the phone still glowing in my hand.

The words on the screen burned into my eyes.

My thumb hovered over the screen without knowing what next to do.

I locked the phone instead and shoved it into my pocket.

The sound I heard earlier were gone now. My heart pounding against my ribs, I listened for another sound but heard nothing.

I rushed out quickly and headed down the stairs.

I grabbed my keys from the hook by the door. I couldn’t stay here.
