Chapter 5

Blood spilled from his mouth as life slowly disappeared from his eyes. With every breath the guard took, Scarlett felt hers drop. She had never killed anyone. She had never had a reason to. She saw a man die in front of her and with her knife, she felt a pitch in her stomach, now she really needed to throw up. Seeing that he couldn't be properly buried, she placed a flower by his head as she immediately turned her back to continue her journey. She didn't have to run this time, there was no one behind her.

She got to the market, everywhere was filled with different colors of light as the noise didn't die down. They didn't seem to care about the darkened sky or the rain. She mixed in fine with the crowd. Apart from the fact that she was starched, dirty and a bit bloody, she moved in perfectly with everyone else who didn't bother to ask if she was alright.

“Excuse me…. please how can I get to the bridge”

She asked an old lady in front of her stall

“Oh my dear child….are you alright?”

She said with concern written all over her voice as her eyes trailed every inch of her bloody skin

“I’m fine”

She said with a smile as the old lady didn't seem to believe her

“Are you sure young lady, you don't look very fine”

She said she tried reaching out for her.

“Do you perhaps know how I could get to the bridge”

She asked, she really had no time to explain her problem to the Lady.

Well of course, just follow the path your life on, turn a little to the left, and you'll see the tracks, follow it and you'll get to the bridge”

She said as Scarlett's faced brightened up

“Thank you”

She said softly and the old lady placed a bun in her hands

“Are you sure you can go to the bridge this night, it's already late, why not staying with me and go tomorrow when it's brighter”

Her legs were weak from running, and the act she just did left her a bit shaken, but she knew that if she stood in this kingdom for a minute more , everything she did would be void and it could complicate the kind old lady. She had to keep going.

“I'll be alright, thank you”

She said as she gave the old lady a little bow and she began to walk…..she felt her heart become a bit lighter. She knew that she was walking towards the rest of her life, she didn't know what was in store for her, but she couldn't be more grateful that she had gotten away from Ryan….she was going to be alright.

Ryan felt like he was waiting for hours as the sky got darker. He had run out of patience a few hours ago, now he was just raging mad.

“No news from them yet?”

He asked his personal guard for the hundredth time as the guard slowly shook his head in a negative response. This made him snap.

Walking towards the carriage, he angrily yelled at the coach to take him back to the castle as the coach wasted no time to whip the horse

The rest of the soldiers looked in shock as the Alpha just left them mid fight. They were already at a disadvantage…..so this ... .this was setting them up for death.

He was raging with anger as he stormed into the castle. The castle sevrants has seen him fly into a rage before, he always has a mood swing. But they had never seen him this red eyed before. Everyone held their breath, because even one breathe could cause them their lives.

He didn't stop walking even when he got to the castle floors, instead he walked straight up to Scarlett's room as he pushed the door open.

Everything was still intact, every single thing was still there…but that was the issue. He had failed to notice that she didn't put any jewelry on today, not even a simple necklace, it was like she didn't want to carry anything that belonged to the castle with her.

He went to her wardrobe and pulled it open. Everything was in place. He had also failed to notice that she wore one of the most simple dresses, that wasn't covered in expensive stones, or had a beautiful sewing pattern, it didn't even had a bow. Instead she picked a simple lacy gown….it was planned.

He should have known that something felt off with her, she didn't talk as she did every other day, her head was in the clouds today….she was scheming to get away from him. She asked about the Kingdom grounds today so that she could have a route to escape….she had another lover.

“Ahhh”

He screamed in anger making the butler and servants flinch in fear. They really have never seen the alpha so angry.

Was it the guard…. could she have left the alpha of the kingdom for a mere guard. The thought made his mouth bitter as he was increasingly filled with anger….and jealousy.

He had always carried himself with pride. Why won't he, he was the Alpha of the entire Canine clan. He was rich, he had his own servants and a company of maids. He had gold and respect. And he was a beautiful man…so what could she have seen in a mere guard. His ego was bruised beyond repair.

His blood shot eyes met the butler's terrified ones.

“Gather all the guards at once….. we're going to the bridge”

He said as he immediately made his way down to the carriage room. She shouldn't have crossed the bridge by now. She and her lover must be on foot, he still has some time. He could catch her.

He didn't even want to think of what might happen if she had crossed the bridge. Crossing that bridge….she would be impossible to find….no she had to be found now.
