Chapter 6

He had always carried himself with pride. Why won't he, he was the Alpha of the entire Canine clan. He was rich, he had his own servants and a company of maids. He had gold and respect. And he was a beautiful man…so what could she have seen in a mere guard. His ego was bruised beyond repair.

His blood shot eyes met the butler's terrified ones.

“Gather all the guards at once….. we're going to the bridge”

He said as he immediately made his way down to the carriage room. She shouldn't have crossed the bridge by now. She and her lover must be on foot, he still has some time. He could catch her.

He didn't even want to think of what might happen if she had crossed the bridge. Crossing that bridge….she would be impossible to find….no she had to be found now.

The sky got dark, as Scarlett didn't stop for a second. It was not so hard to decipher where she was going as the streets were still filled with lights. She had never seen the kingdom with the lights. It looked magical. But she didn't have the leisure to take a look around. The Alpha must have noticed that she was missing and must be conducting a search for her. So she had to hurry, she had to reach the bridge before he did.

Alpha Ryan ordered a complete search and lock down for her. The guards searched everywhere for her, in the bushes, in the marketplace, in the streams. Every nook and cranny was torn apart looking for her

“She must be in the marketplace, deploy 50 guards there”

“The villages should be thoroughly searched, bring me Scarlett”

He yelled commands as he rode his horse through the kingdom. She would regret making him search for a mere girl all night.

“My Lord”

A guard called in a stern voice as Ryan immediately shifted his attention to him.

“He is dead”

Scarlett finally got on a boat as the fishermen rounded up their things as the set to sail

She pulled herself to a corner as she sat down on the woody boat and breathed a sigh of relief. She felt free.

“Did you hear that the King's Alpha had run away?”

There were women in front of her, slaves that were bought and being shipped to other lands. It was customary that slaves don't talk, they were treated worse than dogs. But on this night, they were not slaves, they were people who had voices and felt calm using them.

“So it wasn't just a baseless rumor”

Another chimed as she immediately let go of her basket and paid more attention.

“I heard that they had turned the market and the villages upside down…it seemed like he really loved her”

They wondered if anyone ever searched for them, it must have been beautiful to be loved by a king who went all out for her.

Scarlett rolled her eyes at this. She didn't blame the woman, up till last night she felt nothing but love from Ryan. But she knew now that it wasn't love. It was fear, he feared that another may discover her ability and use her against him. So he made sure he kept her always within his eyesight. And he utilized it to the best of his ability. When she was useless, he would kill her. He had killed the Scarlett that loved him.

“Then she must be stupid. She had everything. The Alpha, riches, gowns. But she chose to elope with a guard”

The slaves were told to be bitter, life was cruel to them, so it was no surprise that they carried anger in their heart.

The lady sneered.

“The castle walls are high, who knows what that poor girl was going through for her to elope with a guard”

But Scarlett wasn't the least interested in their conversation, she instead closed her eyes as she tried to drift off to sleep

“The boats cannot leave the shore. The Alpha gave an instruction that all boats must be searched before it is set to sail”

Her eyes were immediately wide open.

If the guards discovered her in this boat, she would be dead meat. Ryan was really going all out to punish her.

“I heard the king was searching all the boats himself…maybe I could charm him. The villagers always said I had the eyes of a seductress”

One chimed as she immediately wiped her fishy hands on her clothes and tried to straighten his hair.

“Driea….the alpha won't be charmed scarred hands”

One snapped, and they just kept on bantering with each other while Scarlett had to come up with an escape plan fast.

One thing was for sure, she had to get off this boat.

Standing up, she felt her feet ache, but she couldn't stop now, she had come too far to give up.

“Young lady, it's too dark and dangerous to walk alone, the boat would soon move, why not wait a little longer”

One of the men in the boat said when he saw the pale skin girl highlight the boat.

He initially thought she was a slave, but her skin and the silk on her body showed she was an important person, so he had to bridle his tongue. He assumed she was in a rush to cross the sea, it was too dangerous for a little lady to be alone by this time, no matter how much of a rush she was in

“Thank you, but I'm alright”

She said with a smile to convince him

“But it's so dark out, the king shouldn't be too long and we'll set sail before you know it”

He tried persuading her again.

“I bet she want to meet the king first, she wants to charm him first”

One of the women murmured as she looked condescendingly at Scarlett.

She was taken back for a moment seeing how pretty she was. She had long dark hair and a pair of dark green eyes. Her skin was pale and it looked soft. Her jealousy as well as hate grew with every passing moment.

“Foolish girl, you think the king would look at you twice with such dirty skin, you won't stand a chance”

She was probably a slave that escaped, maybe her owner saw grace in her.
