I sat in the back of the SUV, the leather seat creaking a little under me as I shifted. Rain hit the roof like tiny drums, and the city lights blurred outside the tinted windows as we tore through. The air inside felt damp from the vents, mixing with my cologne.

I gripped my phone tight and dialed Marco.

“Boss,” he answered right away. “What’s up?”
