I reach for the envelope with shaking hands. “Let me open it and see what it says.”

“Be careful,” Cassie warns, watching me closely.

I try to slide my finger under the edge of the envelope to break the seal. But the moment my finger touches the edge, I feel a sharp, burning pain.

“Ow!” I cry out, pulling my hand back quickly.
