We walk away from Coach Margaret's office, and as soon as we're out of earshot, Cassie turns to me with a questioning look.

"Why did you lie to Coach Margaret about not knowing where Alex is?" she asks.

I shake my head. "I didn't lie. I really don't know where Alex is right now. I've been trying to contact him all day."

"But you were talking to him earlier," Cassie points out.

"That was hours ago," I explain. "He ran off chasing someone, and I haven't seen him since. I have no idea ...
